Description

American Traveler is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with critical care experience for a high-volume ER and Level 1 Trauma Center position at an acute care teaching hospital, working night shifts.

Details

  • 703-bed acute care teaching hospital and Level 1 Trauma Center (Adult & Pediatric), affiliated with a medical school and Magnet-designated for nursing excellence
  • Adult-focused RRT unit serving adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients
  • High-volume ER and critical care setting including neurotrauma, cardiovascular services, and medical/surgical ICU
  • Patient ratio of 1:25
  • Robust Assess and Treat protocol in place, with ventilator management and liberation policy
  • Equipment includes Servo I, Servo U, V-60 BiPAP, Optiflow heated high flow, iNO with the iNOvent, and LTV1200
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (7p–7a); 4x12 schedule available by request
  • Weekend requirement: every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
  • Floating within skillset required
  • 26-week contract length available by request

Requirements

  • RRT credential issued by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) required; CRT not accepted
  • Active Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner by the VA State Board of Medicine required; other state licenses accepted, but a 90-day temporary authorization must be obtained while VA permanent license is processed
  • License required if applicable
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Minimum 1 year of critical care experience in a high-volume ER or Level 1 Trauma Center setting
  • Experience with Epic EMR required
  • Proficiency with aerosol and medication delivery systems (mask, trach, MDI, Medihaler) and inhaled medications including Albuterol, Atrovent, Combivent, Flovent, Pulmicort, Mucomyst, racemic epinephrine, inhaled Flolan, inhaled steroids, bicarbonate, and lidocaine
  • Competency in ABG interpretation and ventilator management including BiPAP, CPAP, HFNC, flow-by, high-pressure alarm troubleshooting, and weaning from mechanical ventilation
  • Airway management skills including extubation, oral/nasal airway placement, suctioning, sputum collection, and tracheostomy care
  • Proficiency in oxygen therapy and nebulizer setups (handheld, T-piece, trach collar, ultrasonic)
  • Driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration
  • Two references required for consideration

Additional Information

  • First-time travelers are accepted; 1 year of prior travel experience preferred
  • Local candidates are not accepted; a radius rule applies to determine eligibility
  • Must work one holiday per 13-week contract period
  • All time-off (RTO) requests must be submitted upfront at time of consideration
  • Hospital is certified as an Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center and features a dedicated children's hospital
