Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU position at a Level I Trauma, Magnet teaching hospital, requiring strong neuro experience including EVD, craniotomy, and burr hole proficiency.
Details
- 13-week contract with the possibility of extension beyond 13 weeks
- Neuro ICU unit (2W) within a 500-bed Magnet, Level I Trauma, academic teaching hospital
- Patient population includes hemorrhagic stroke, SAH, aneurysms, vascular malformations, TBI, SCI, tumor resections, ischemic stroke (tPA/thrombectomy), seizure disorders, and neuro infections — with some medical/surgical overflow
- TJC Comprehensive Stroke Center-accredited unit
- Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:30
- Patient ratio: 1:2 on both days and nights
- Every other weekend required
- Floating required as needed to other ICU areas or for boarders
- No on-call requirements
- Block scheduling is not available
- Epic EMR required (hard stop — no exceptions)
- Telemetry proficiency required; candidates will be tested on dysrhythmia interpretation and management
Requirements
- Active WA state RN license or Compact RN license — pending licenses are not accepted
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 2 years of Neuro ICU RN experience required
- Proficiency in EVD (external ventricular drain) management, craniotomy care, and burr hole procedures required
- Strong telemetry skills including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias required
- COVID vaccination and booster required — no exceptions
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Prior Level I Trauma and/or teaching hospital experience preferred
Additional Information
- Care for a complex neuroscience patient population including post-operative neurosurgical and primary neurological cases
- First-time travelers may be considered if they have prior Level I Trauma experience and a strong work history
- Prior UW Health System staff must have been separated from the facility for at least 18 months before being considered as a traveler
- Local candidates are accepted at the same rates with no radius restriction
- RTO may not be requested during orientation week and should be kept to a minimum
- Any solid color scrubs are acceptable; light blue scrubs are provided on the unit
- Onsite parking is available for a daily fee; an offsite parking option (~1 mile away) is also available at $10/day via a weekday shuttle (5am–10pm, Mon–Fri only)
