Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced OR RN for a 13-week travel contract at an acute care facility in Iowa, requiring at least 1 year of OR experience and call availability including weeknights, weekends, and holidays.
Details
- Work setting is an acute care hospital OR department with 5 main OR suites, 1 OB/OR, and 1 ENDO suite
- Averages approximately 12 cases per day
- Common cases include Mako total joints, ventral/inguinal hernias, laparoscopic cholecystectomies, endoscopy, pacemaker placement, C-sections, exploratory laparotomy, cataracts, urology, ENT, and pediatric cases (appendectomy, foreign body removal, tonsillectomy, tube placement, post-tonsil bleeds)
- Surgical team includes OR techs; scrubbing is not required for RNs
- Facility is a Level 4 trauma center
- Charting is done in MEDITECH
- Standard schedule is Monday–Friday, 6:45am–3:15pm (5x8s or 4x10s), with a 7am daily huddle; no self-scheduling
- Minimum of one weeknight call per week (3:15pm–7:00am) with one nurse and one tech on call
- One weekend of call per month covering Friday 3:15pm through Monday 7:00am
- Minimum of one holiday call shift required
- Call response time is 30 minutes
Requirements
- Active Iowa (IA) or Compact RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS and ACLS (both AHA); PALS preferred
- Minimum 1 year of OR experience required
- Experience across the full range of cases performed at this facility is required
- First-time travelers will not be considered
- Must reside within 50 miles of the facility
Additional Information
- Hospital-provided scrubs supplied
- Orientation is flexible and individualized — at minimum a half-day unit tour is provided, with additional case-specific orientation as needed; the OR Director will attempt to connect with travelers prior to their start date
- The OR team is described as highly collaborative with strong tenure; candidates should be team-oriented and adaptable to an established unit culture
- No RV electrical hook-ups are available at or near the facility
