Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced travel RN for an ICU position at a Magnet-designated Level II Trauma Center in Rapid City, SD, requiring at least 1.5 years of ICU experience and Epic proficiency.

Details

  • Mixed ICU unit (MICU, SICU, CICU, TICU) with 39 beds at a Magnet-designated, Level II Trauma Center and teaching hospital
  • Complex ICU patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases; diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multi-system trauma
  • Cardiac experience is preferred, particularly CABG/TAVR 24–48 hours post-op, though not required for travelers
  • Patient ratios are 1:1, 1:2, or occasionally 1:3, depending on acuity
  • Charting system is Epic (required); infusion pumps include Alaris (transitioning to Baxter pumps) and Omnicell for medication dispensing
  • 12-hour night shifts, 48 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating to adult floors, including Med-Surg/Tele (1:4 ratio), is possible but uncommon and typically only occurs when overstaffed

Requirements

  • Active RN license — SD state license or compact license required
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (TNCC is required and must be obtained prior to start)
  • Minimum 1.5–2 years of ICU experience, excluding travel assignments, is required; 2+ years is strongly preferred
  • At least one prior travel assignment required — first-time travelers will not be considered
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Experience with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics required
  • Experience with hemodynamic lines, ventilator management, proning, and telemetry required
  • Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred
  • Must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility
  • Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
  • DOB and SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provides critical care nursing to a high-acuity, mixed ICU population with a heavy trauma census
  • Unit support includes 1–2 CNAs per unit plus a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, a resource nurse (staffing dependent), 24/7 respiratory therapy, and physician coverage with 3 intensivists on days and 2 intensivists plus an APP on nights
  • Orientation consists of a hospital orientation, one 12-hour shift, and one 8-hour shift on the ICU
  • Navy scrubs required; free parking is available
  • No RTO is approved during holidays or the Sturgis Bike Rally (first three weeks of August)
  • RTO of up to 7 days may be approved, but the contract must be extended to accommodate a full 13-week assignment
  • Permanent staff must wait one year before returning to the facility as a travel nurse
