Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week travel contract at a Level II Trauma facility in Nebraska, requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience and active NE or Compact RN license.

Details

  • Acute care ICU setting at a Level II Trauma facility
  • 33-bed ICU unit with an average daily census of 16
  • Patient population includes trauma, cardiac, stroke, sepsis, overdose/substance abuse, post-stent, pacemaker placement, vascular cases, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2–3 for adult patients
  • RNs are required to titrate drips, including cardiac drips, insulin, and sedation
  • RNs are required to read, interpret, and document telemetry strips; GE monitor brand is used with tele tech oversight
  • Patients may require respiratory support ranging from nasal cannula to mechanical ventilation
  • EMR system is Epic
  • 12-hour day shifts, 0630–1830
  • Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) required
  • Floating is required, typically to PCU and occasionally to MedSurg, with ratios of 1:4–1:5
  • Minimum of 2 holidays that fall within the contract period are required
  • If placed on call, candidate must be able to arrive on-site within 30 minutes if called back in
  • Nurse aides available based on census for 1:1 sits or floor assistance; Healthcare Support Tech available 3 days/week (Mon–Fri, 0800–1630)

Requirements

  • Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses are not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU RN experience required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required; pending certifications are not accepted
  • Epic EMR experience applicable to this ICU setting
  • Ability to titrate cardiac drips, insulin, and sedation drips required
  • Experience with telemetry monitoring and strip interpretation required
  • Experience with respiratory support equipment from nasal cannula to mechanical ventilation
  • Driver's license required for consideration and used to verify residence is outside the 50-mile radius
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years; both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Additional Information

  • Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; permanent address on driver's license is used to verify this
  • Candidates who are currently or have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year are not eligible; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
  • Orientation consists of 1 unit-specific shift, plus a pass/fail open-book skills exam administered on Wednesdays; a minimum score of 90% is required to pass — failure to pass will result to contract termination
  • Artificial nails are strictly prohibited in all patient care departments; refusal to remove them will result in contract termination
  • Block scheduling is not available except for weekend-only blocks; duo scheduling requests for shared schedules or car sharing will not be accommodated
  • RTO must be submitted upfront and is limited to 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved
