Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an LDRP position at a Critical Access Hospital, requiring fetal monitoring skills and the ability to float to Med/Surg and the ER on night shifts.

Details

  • Acute care setting at a Critical Access Hospital (CAH)
  • LDRP unit with 15 total beds — 7 Labor & Delivery and 8 Postpartum
  • 1 OR suite on the unit for C-sections, averaging approximately 58 births per month
  • Patient population includes obstetric and neonatal patients with common diagnoses of hypertension, gestational diabetes (GDM), and general obstetric care; facility avoids delivering patients under 36 weeks
  • Staffing ratios follow AWHONN guidelines: 1:1 for pitocin, magnesium, or insulin drips; 1:3 for couplet care
  • RNs are required to titrate drips including pitocin, insulin, and magnesium
  • RNs must independently read and interpret their own fetal strips using the TraceView/PIP EFM system and Philips monitors
  • RT equipment (vents, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow) is present on the unit; RNs are not required to do more than troubleshoot
  • EMR is MEDITECH; experience preferred
  • 12-hour night shifts (1845–0715); day shift option also available (0645–1915)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Every other holiday required
  • On-call/standby requirement depending on staffing needs
  • Floating required to Med/Surg and ER as needed; permanent staff are typically floated first
  • Block scheduling is available; self-scheduling is not offered

Requirements

  • Active ND or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses will not be accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Required certifications: BLS and Intermediate Fetal Monitoring — pending certifications will not be accepted
  • Preferred certifications: ACLS, NRP, STABLE
  • Ability to read and interpret fetal strips is required
  • Experience titrating drips (pitocin, magnesium, insulin) required
  • Prior travel nursing experience preferred
  • Strong critical thinking skills and ability to adapt to a changing environment required
  • Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility
  • Candidates must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past 12 months (candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered)
  • A valid driver's license is required for consideration
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Additional Information

  • Unit is a locked department; CNAs are on staff to assist with vitals, transfer paperwork, patient ambulation, turning, and desk coverage
  • A charge nurse is present on every shift and carries a patient assignment
  • No OB/Neonatologist or anesthesia in-house 24/7
  • No telemetry or monitor techs on the unit — RNs manage their own monitoring independently
  • Unit-specific orientation consists of 3 shifts
  • Scrubs are provided on-site; the assigned scrub color is maroon and RNs will change into surgical scrubs upon arrival to the unit
  • Successful nurses on this unit are adaptive to change, strong critical thinkers, and effective communicators
  • All requested time off must be submitted upfront; no additional RTO will be approved after consideration
