Description
American Traveler is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist for a night shift position at a teaching hospital, requiring 2+ years of Adult Critical Care experience and prior travel experience.
Details
- Short term acute care teaching hospital, member of the Council of Teaching Hospitals (COTH), with 338 staffed beds
- Adult Critical Care and Emergency Department work settings
- May float between Adult and NICU units if candidate has NICU experience
- Night shift schedule with 3x12 or 4x12 hour options
- Every other weekend required with no on-call requirement
- Holiday coverage expected
- 13 or 18 week contract length options available
- Block scheduling available
- Uses Draeger V500, Draeger VN500, and Servo U ventilators
- Charts in Cerner
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of experience as an RRT in Adult Critical Care within the last 7 years
- Completion of at least 1 prior travel assignment required
- BLS and CRT certifications required
- RRT certification preferred
- ACLS, NRP, and PALS certifications preferred
- MD State licensure or compact license required; license required if applicable
- Emergency Department experience preferred
- Teaching hospital and community hospital experience preferred
- Trauma Level I and Level II experience preferred
- Cerner charting experience required
- Skilled in airway management devices, suctioning, extubation, tracheostomy care, and pulmonary hygiene
- Comfortable drawing and analyzing ABGs with strong ABG interpretation skills
- Experience with ventilator management including BiPAP, CPAP, weaning, and alarm troubleshooting
- Experience administering respiratory medications including Albuterol, Atrovent, Combivent, and other bronchodilators/steroids
- Experience with High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) and trach collar oxygen therapy
- Bronchoscopy, umbilical blood gas, and high-risk delivery assistance skills preferred
- Two supervisory references required, including one from the most recent assignment, supporting at least 2 years of experience in the previous 3 years
Additional Information
- Perform airway management including endotracheal tube suctioning, extubation, nasal and oral airway placement, and tracheostomy care
- Collect sputum specimens and provide pulmonary hygiene services
- Interpret arterial blood gases (ABGs) and troubleshoot ventilator alarms
- Administer nebulizer treatments, metered dose inhalers, and aerosol setups
- Assist in high-risk deliveries and manage umbilical blood gases when floating to NICU
- Work as part of a respiratory therapy team within a teaching hospital environment
- Scrubs are not provided; ceil blue scrub color required
- Flu vaccine required for all employees at this facility
- First-time travelers will not be considered; at least 1 prior travel assignment is required
- No more than 7 days of RTO permitted per 13-week contract, with no RTO allowed during the first two weeks of the assignment
- Local candidates within 60 miles of the facility are accepted at a lower rate
- Previous employees of this health system must have been separated for a minimum of one year before returning as a traveler
