Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cath Lab Holding (Post Cardiac Cath Unit) position at a major teaching hospital, requiring cardiac telemetry experience and a WV or Compact RN license.
Details
- Work in a Post Cardiac Cath Unit (PCCU) within a 838-bed, Level IV Trauma Center and major teaching hospital (COTH member)
- Patient population includes pre- and post-cath patients, with some overflow from the ED
- Common diagnoses include NSTEMI, STEMI, CHF, Atrial Fibrillation, Atrial Flutter, Bradycardia, Tachycardia, Heart Blocks, SVT, V-Tach, Sinus Arrhythmia, and AV Paced/Defibrillator patients
- Procedures include arterial/venous sheath pulls post-cath, TR band management, and post-procedure care for new pacemakers, defibrillators, and Watchman devices
- Patients are typically discharged 24–48 hours post-procedure; CABG consult patients are either prepared for open heart surgery or transferred to the appropriate unit
- Some ED observation patients receive their procedure and are discharged within 36 hours
- Drips managed on the unit include Nitroglycerin, Angiomax, Heparin, electrolytes, fluids, and antibiotics; chest tubes and critical drips are not managed on this unit
- Adult patient population only
- Patient ratio is 1:5 on all shifts
- Charting is performed using Cerner
- 3x12-hour night shifts, 19:30–07:00
- Every other weekend is required
- Floating within scope may be required to meet facility needs
Requirements
- Active WV or Compact RN license required; may be considered with a pending RN license
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required; candidates approaching 2 years by the contract start date may be considered
- Minimum 1 year of in-specialty cardiac experience required
- Required certifications: BLS
- Preferred certifications: ACLS, CPI
- Required skills: cardiac telemetry, MS/Tele, central line draws, port access, blood administration, PCA pumps, bone marrow aspiration assist, and Pleurx chest tube management
- Chemotherapy administration experience preferred
- Flu vaccine required during flu season (October 1 – March 31); a documented medical allergy (verified by an allergist or physician record) is the only accepted exemption
- Must reside more than 100 miles from the facility to qualify; candidates within 75–99 miles may be submitted for facility approval
- Driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration
- Minimum of 2 manager or charge nurse references from within the past 2 years required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide pre- and post-procedure care to cardiac cath patients, including monitoring, sheath management, and discharge coordination
- COVID vaccine is not required
- Scrub color for RNs is Royal Blue/White
- Parking is complimentary for travelers
- Former permanent employees of this health system must have a 2-year gap from their last day of permanent employment before being eligible to return as a traveler
- First-time travelers may be considered if the candidate has relevant cardiac patient experience
- Holiday RTO requests are limited to no more than 1 of the 3 major holidays; blocked schedules are not guaranteed and should be discussed during the interview process
