Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Post Cardiac Cath Unit (PCCU) / Cardiac Telemetry position at a major academic teaching hospital, requiring at least 1 year of cardiac specialty experience and a WV or compact RN license.
Details
- Post Cardiac Cath Unit (PCCU) in a 838-bed Level IV Trauma Center and major teaching hospital (COTH member)
- Adult patient population including pre- and post-cardiac cath patients, as well as ED overflow
- Common diagnoses include NSTEMI, STEMI, CHF, atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, bradycardia, tachycardia, heart blocks, SVT, V-tach, sinus arrhythmia, and AV paced/defibrillator patients
- Procedures performed on the unit include arterial/venous sheath pulls post-cath, TR band management, and care for new pacemaker, defibrillator, and Watchman post-procedure patients
- Accepted drips include nitroglycerin, Angiomax, heparin, electrolytes, fluids, and antibiotics — chest tubes and critical drips are not managed on this unit
- Patient ratio is 1:5 on all shifts
- Schedule is 3x12-hour night shifts (1930–0700) with every other weekend required
- Charting system is Cerner
- Floating within scope may be required to meet facility needs
Requirements
- Active WV or compact RN license required; candidates with a pending RN license may be considered
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience, with at least 1 year of cardiac specialty experience
- Required certifications: BLS
- Preferred certifications: ACLS, CPI
- Required skills: telemetry monitoring, central line draws, port access, blood administration, PCA pumps, bone marrow aspiration assist, and Pleurx chest tube management
- Chemotherapy administration experience preferred
- Cardiac telemetry and MS/Tele work setting experience required
- Must provide a valid Driver's License and Social Security card for consideration
- Minimum of 2 manager or charge nurse references from within the past 2 years required for consideration
- Flu vaccine required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31); must have documented allergist or physician record to be exempt
Additional Information
- Manages pre- and post-cath patients through discharge, typically 24–48 hours post-procedure; coordinates CABG consults and transfers as appropriate
- Some ED observation patients receive procedures and are discharged within 36 hours directly from this unit
- Free parking is available for travelers
- Royal blue or white scrubs required for RNs
- First-time travelers may be considered if they have relevant cardiac patient experience
- Former permanent employees of this health system must have a 2-year gap from their last day of permanent employment before being eligible to work as a traveler
- Holiday RTO is limited to no more than 1 of the 3 major holidays during the contract
- Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from the facility; those residing 75–99 miles away may be submitted for facility approval
- COVID vaccine is not required
