Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Post Cardiac Cath Unit (PCCU) Stepdown Cardiac position at a major teaching hospital, requiring cardiac telemetry experience and a WV or compact RN license.
Details
- Work in the Post Cardiac Cath Unit (PCCU) of a Level IV Trauma Center and major teaching hospital (838 beds, COTH member) in a short-term acute care setting
- Patient population includes pre- and post-cardiac catheterization patients, as well as overflow from the ED; adult patients only
- Common diagnoses include NSTEMI, STEMI, CHF, atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, bradycardia, tachycardia, heart blocks, SVT, V-tach, sinus arrhythmia, and AV paced/defibrillator patients
- Procedures performed on the unit include arterial/venous sheath pulls post-cath, TR band management, and post-procedure care for new pacemakers, defibrillators, and Watchman devices
- Drips administered include nitroglycerin, Angiomax, heparin, electrolytes, fluids, and antibiotics; chest tubes and critical drips are not managed on this unit
- Patient ratio is 1:5 on all shifts
- Schedule is 3x12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, with every other weekend required
- Charting is done in Cerner
- Floating within scope may be required to meet facility needs
Requirements
- Active WV or compact RN license required; may be submitted with a pending RN license (clean license required)
- Minimum 2 years of total RN experience and at least 1 year of cardiac specialty experience required
- BLS certification required
- ACLS and CPI certifications preferred
- Required skills: telemetry monitoring, central line draws, port access, blood administration, PCA pumps, bone marrow aspiration assist, and PleurX chest tube management
- Chemotherapy administration experience preferred
- Cardiac telemetry or med-surg/telemetry work setting experience required
- Two manager or charge nurse references from within the past 2 years required for consideration
- Driver's license and SSN card required for consideration
- Flu vaccine required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31); medical documentation from an allergist or physician required for exemption
Additional Information
- Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from the facility to qualify; candidates residing 75–99 miles away may be submitted for facility approval
- Former permanent employees of this health system are not eligible to return as a traveler until 2 years after their last day of permanent employment
- First-time travelers will be considered if they have relevant cardiac patient experience
- Holiday RTO requests should be limited to no more than 1 of the 3 major holidays
- Blocked scheduling is not guaranteed and should be discussed during the interview if desired
- Scrub color for RNs is royal blue or white
- Parking is complimentary for travelers
