Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position requiring high-risk antepartum and intrapartum experience, including OBOR competency.
Details
- 13-week contract in a hospital Labor & Delivery unit (13 South), a 24-bed unit serving low and high risk pregnant patients from antepartum through delivery
- Regional referral center for high-risk pregnancies in Southwest VA, serving patients within approximately a 150-mile radius
- Accepts pregnant patients at gestational age of 20 weeks and above, averaging 250 deliveries and 350 triage visits per month
- Unit includes a 3-bed triage area, 2 ORs, and 2 post-anesthesia beds
- Patient ratios: 1:1–2 laboring patients, 1:3–4 antepartum patients, 1:3 triage patients, 2:1 OBOR patients, 1:1–2 OB PACU patients
- Team includes Clinical Team Leaders (RN), Registered Nurses, and 4 Nursing Assistants
- Schedule: 3x12-hour night shifts, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend (EOW) or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
- On-call required with a maximum of 24 hours per 6-week scheduling block
- Electronic charting system experience required; specific EMR not specified
- Facility may call off 1 shift per 2-week period
Requirements
- Active Virginia state or Compact RN license required; pending license accepted only if candidate holds a single-state license from a non-compact state
- Current BLS certification required
- Experience in high-risk antepartum and Labor & Delivery required
- Competency in antepartum, intrapartum, and OBOR (scrubbing and/or circulating) strongly preferred
- Proficiency with obstetric skills including sterile speculum exams, non-stress tests (NST), reflex/edema/clonus assessment, sterile vaginal exams, and obstetrical triage
- Fetal monitoring skills required: recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns, external and internal fetal monitoring, and IUPC placement and calibration
- Experience administering OB-related medications including antihypertensives, insulin drips, Magnesium Sulfate, Pitocin (oxytocin), Prostaglandins, and Terbutaline
- Copies of driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration

- Two professional references required for consideration
- Must work one holiday during the 13-week contract
- All RTO, block, and special scheduling requests must be submitted at the time of application
