Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PACU position requiring at least 1 year of mixed adult/pediatric PACU experience at a Level 1 trauma center, with proficiency in critical care skills including ventilator management and trauma protocols.
Details
- PACU unit within a Level 1 trauma hospital that is also the only burn center in the Phoenix area, treating highly acute adult and pediatric cases
- Patient population spans neonates through geriatrics, with an approximate mix of 70% adult and 30% pediatric cases
- Pediatric cases include critically ill patients from the PICU and Peds Burn unit; peds volume fluctuates week to week
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2
- Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
- Weekend requirement to be discussed during the interview process
- On-call requirement of approximately 4–6 call shifts per 6-week schedule, with further details discussed during the interview
- No floating required
Requirements
- Active AZ or Compact RN license currently in hand
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, and an advanced trauma certification (TNCC, ATCN, TACR, or equivalent)
- Minimum 1 year of PICU or ICU experience AND 1 year of Phase 1 PACU experience in a mixed adult/pediatric setting at a Level 1 trauma hospital; alternatively, candidates with a demonstrated combination of both adult and pediatric PACU experience in their work history will be considered
- Proficiency in central line care and management, IV vasopressor administration, care of ventilated patients, chest tube management, and Malignant Hyperthermia protocols
- Must be comfortable caring for critically ill pediatric patients, including neonates and infants, in Phase 1 PACU recovery scenarios
- Candidates must reside at least 75 miles from the facility to be eligible
Additional Information
- Provides Phase 1 post-anesthesia recovery care for a wide range of adult and pediatric surgical and trauma patients, including burn, ICU-level, and outpatient cases
- Must be prepared to care for pediatric patients on an as-needed basis, including critically ill peds patients awaiting ICU bed placement
- Teaching hospital experience is preferred
- First-time travelers are generally not considered, though exceptions may be made for candidates who meet all requirements and demonstrate exceptionally strong experience
