Details

  • Acute care setting in a Med/Surg ICU unit at a Level I Trauma Center serving as the primary tertiary hospital for the system
  • 34-bed unit serving adult and pediatric patients (15+ years old) with diagnoses including respiratory failure, ARDS, MODS, sepsis, stroke, cardiogenic shock, renal failure, GI bleeds, and cancer-specific surgeries
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:1–2 (ICU), 1:4–5 (PCU), and 1:5–6 (Med/Surg)
  • RNs are required to titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
  • Equipment includes CVPs, A-lines, Swans, EV-1000, ICP monitoring, Zoll Thermoguard, Bell Mont rapid transfuser, and ventilator support ranging from nasal cannula to full vents — training available for specialized equipment
  • Draeger heart monitoring with centralized telemetry; RNs must be able to read and interpret their own telemetry strips independently (no monitor techs on unit)
  • EMR: Epic
  • 12-hour night shifts (18:30–06:30); schedule set by manager based on unit needs
  • Every other weekend required; holiday coverage expected for 2 out of 3 major holidays or every other as needed
  • Floating required to all inpatient units, excluding Maternity/NICU
  • 13-week contract

Requirements

  • Active NE state or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses will not be accepted
  • Required certifications (all must be active, no pending accepted): BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
  • Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience required
  • Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (driver's license required for address verification)
  • Candidates may not currently be employed full-time, part-time, or PRN at any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Candidates will interview with unit leaders as part of the selection process
  • Orientation consists of 2 unit-specific shifts plus an open-book pass/fail exam on the Friday of orientation week; a minimum score of 90% is required to pass — failure results in contract termination
  • Charge nurses are present on each shift, attending rapid response teams (RRTs) and codes; charge nurses carry their own patient assignment
  • Nurse aides/patient care techs are available at a 1:18 ratio
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • Fast-paced environment with volume fluctuations; successful candidates demonstrate critical thinking, a positive attitude, willingness to collaborate, and the ability to ask questions
  • Team-oriented unit working collaboratively with attendings, fellows, and residents
  • Candidates who were previously employed PRN through outside staffing firms at CommonSpirit facilities are eligible to apply
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove will result to contract termination
  • RTO must be disclosed upfront; up to 7 days per 13-week contract may be approved — additional RTO will not be approved
