Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week travel contract in Rapid City, SD, requiring at least 1.5–2 years of ICU experience and TNCC certification prior to arrival.
Details
- Mixed ICU setting with 39 beds divided into pods (MICU, SICU, CICU, TICU); floating into the CVICU side is only considered for candidates with relevant experience
- Complex ICU patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases with a heavy trauma census
- Diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multi-system trauma
- Cardiac experience (CABG/TAVR, 24–48 hrs post-op) is preferred but not required; fresh open-heart cases are assigned to permanent staff
- Patient ratios are 1:1 or 1:2, with 1:3 occurring rarely based on acuity
- EMR: Epic (required); Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter) and Omnicell also in use
- Schedule: 12-hour day shifts at 48 hours per week
- Every-other-weekend rotation is the expectation, though not guaranteed
- No on-call requirements
- Floating to adult floors (including Med-Surg/Tele at a 1:4 ratio) is uncommon and only occurs when overstaffed
Requirements
- Active RN license in South Dakota or a compact state license valid for practice in SD
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (must be obtained prior to start)
- Minimum 1.5–2 years of ICU experience, excluding travel assignments; candidates with 1.5 years of ICU experience plus significant RN experience in another setting may be considered
- At least one prior travel nursing assignment required; first-time travelers will not be considered
- Epic EMR experience required
- Proficiency with IV medications (vasopressors, sedation, paralytics), hemodynamic lines, ventilator management, proning, and telemetry
- Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred
- Strong critical thinking, assessment skills, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, all-critical-care environment
- Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
- DOB and SSN required for consideration
Additional Information
- Candidates must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility to be eligible
- Former permanent staff must wait one year before returning in a travel capacity
- Orientation consists of a hospital orientation, one 12-hour shift, and one 8-hour shift on the ICU
- Unit support includes 1–2 CNAs per unit, a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, respiratory therapy available 24/7, phlebotomy for peripheral draws, and intensivist/APP physician coverage around the clock
- Navy scrubs are required
- Free parking is available on-site
- No RTO is permitted during holidays or the Sturgis Bike Rally (first three weeks of August)
- Time off requests of up to 7 days may be approved, provided the full 13-week contract is fulfilled
- Travelers may occasionally be asked to precept students
