Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week night shift contract at a Level II Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital in Rapid City, SD, requiring Epic proficiency and a minimum of one prior travel assignment.

Details

  • Mixed ICU setting (MICU, SICU, CICU, TICU) in a 39-bed unit within a Level II Trauma Center, Level III NICU, and Magnet-designated teaching hospital
  • Complex ICU patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases with diagnoses such as ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multi-system trauma
  • Patient ratios are 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3 (rare) based on acuity
  • Cardiac experience preferred, particularly CABG/TAVR 24–48 hrs post-op; fresh open-heart cases are not assigned to travelers unless experience and facility comfort are confirmed
  • Charting system: Epic (required); Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter pumps); Omnicell
  • 12-hour night shifts at 48 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Floating is uncommon but possible to adult floors including Med/Surg or Tele at a 1:4 ratio when overstaffed

Requirements

  • Active RN license in South Dakota or a Compact state currently in hand
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (must be obtained prior to start if not already held)
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience excluding travel experience strongly preferred; candidates with at least 1.5 years of ICU experience excluding travel and significant RN experience outside of ICU may be considered with management approval
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Experience with vasopressors, sedation, paralytics, hemodynamic lines, proning, ventilator management, and telemetry
  • Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred
  • Strong critical thinking, assessment skills, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, all-critical-patient environment
  • Must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility
  • Minimum of one prior travel assignment required; first-time travelers will not be considered
  • Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
  • DOB and SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Unit support includes 1–2 CNAs per unit plus a mobility float aide, 2 Charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, a resource nurse (staffing dependent), 24/7 Respiratory Therapy, and physician coverage with 3 intensivists on days and 2 intensivists plus an APP on nights
  • ICU CRNs place all midlines; peripheral blood draws are handled by phlebotomy
  • Orientation consists of one 12-hour shift and one 8-hour shift on the ICU unit, plus general hospital orientation
  • No RTO approved during holidays or the Sturgis Bike Rally (first three weeks of August); up to 7 days of time off may be approved otherwise, and the contract must be extended to accommodate any approved time off
  • Navy scrubs required
  • Free parking is available on site
  • Former permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning to the facility as a traveler
