Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a PCU/Acute Care position at a hospital in Brevard, NC, requiring at least 2 years of experience and night shift availability.

Details

• Work setting is a 30-bed Acute Care/PCU unit within a community hospital in Brevard, NC
• Unit is staffed with 40+ team members, including charge nurses, RNs/LPNs, and nursing assistants on both day and night shifts
• Patient ratios are 2-4:1 for stepdown/ICU-level patients and 5-6:1 for med/surg patients, with 2-3 PCTs on the floor as appropriate
• Common procedures include IV starts, central venous line (CVL) and arterial line management, Foley catheter insertion, EKG monitoring, and wound care
• Equipment used includes IV pumps, SCDs, Nova Stat glucometer, wound vac, Baxter feeding pump, lift equipment, and Pyxis (nurses only)
• EMR system is Cerner
• Night shift hours: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
• Weekend rotation includes 3 Mondays and Fridays per 6-week scheduling period; holiday coverage per staffing matrix
• Floating to the TCU (Transitional Care Unit) may be required

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required
• Current BLS certification required; ACLS must be completed prior to the end of orientation
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required for PCU RNs
• Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience required
• ICU or stepdown experience preferred; med/surg experience of at least 1 year also preferred
• US Social Security Number (SSN) and date of birth (DOB) required for consideration — Canadian SSNs not accepted
• At least one professional reference required
• No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not eligible

Additional Information

• The unit operates on a Team-Based Care model, with daily interdisciplinary rounds involving MDs, nurses, case management, pharmacists, and PT/OT to coordinate patient care and discharge planning
• The unit cares for a mixed acuity population ranging from med/surg to ICU-level patients
• Nurses are required to wear navy blue scrubs
• Certifications must not expire within the first 30 days of the assignment start date; AHA or ARC certifications are accepted
• This is a 13-week travel contract
