Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Vascular Unit (CVU) Stepdown position at a Level 1 Trauma facility in Nebraska, requiring at least 1 year of cardiac stepdown experience and active NE or Compact RN licensure.

- Acute care stepdown unit (CVU) within a Level 1 Trauma hospital
- 18-bed unit supporting the thoracic program, electrophysiology (EP), cath lab, and structural heart program
- Patient population includes intermediate care and downgraded CVICU patients with diagnoses such as CVAs, CHF, A-fib RVR, and other cardiac and vascular conditions
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4; 1:3 for post-surgical patients in the first 24 hours
- RNs are required to titrate drips including amiodarone, nitroglycerin, nicardipine, epinephrine, cardizem, and other blood pressure management medications
- Telemetry monitoring via hardwired and tele box systems; RNs must independently read and interpret rhythm strips (remote tele techs also available)
- Respiratory therapy equipment in use includes BiPAP, CPAP, and nasal cannula
- EMR: Epic experience required
- 12-hour day shifts (0630–1900) and night shifts (1830–0700) available
- Every other weekend required
- No on-call or standby requirement
- Floating required to all same-level and lower-acuity units
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses not accepted
- Active certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS; pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 1 year of experience with cardiac stepdown or intermediate cardiac care patients required
- Minimum 2 years of overall RN experience required
- BSN not required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Driver's license required for consideration (used to verify 50-mile radius compliance)
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years — both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
Additional Information
- Charge nurse is present on each shift and rarely takes a patient assignment
- Nurse aides/patient care techs are available on the unit at a 1:18 ratio
- Hospitalist and intensivist are in-house 24/7; cardiology is on call after hours
- Respiratory therapy is available 24/7
- Unit orientation is tailored to individual experience, typically 1–2 shifts; a pass/fail open-book skills exam is administered on the first Friday of orientation and requires a minimum score of 90% to pass — failure results in contract termination
- Scrub color: Navy blue
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments; refusal to remove them will result to contract termination
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; driver's license is used to verify permanent address
- Candidates may not be currently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) at any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity; candidates who worked PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- RTO requests must be submitted upfront; no more than 7 days per 13-week contract, and no additional RTO will be approved after submission
