Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a GI/Endoscopy and PACU position at a Magnet-designated Level II Trauma Center in Rapid City, SD, requiring at least 2 years of RN experience and advanced endoscopy skills.

Details

  • Hospital setting: Magnet-designated, Level II Trauma Center, Level II Pediatric Trauma, Level III NICU, Primary Stroke and Chest Pain Center, and teaching hospital
  • Unit includes 4 Endoscopy rooms, 20 Pre-Op bays, and 14 PACU bays
  • Patient types include upper and lower endoscopy (including advanced procedures: EUS, EBUS, ERCP, EGD, and colonoscopy), as well as Pre-Op and PACU Phase I and Phase II recovery with some ICU-level care
  • Patient ratios: Endoscopy 1:1; Pre-Op 1:2; PACU Phase I 1:1 or 1:2 based on acuity; PACU Phase II 1:2–3
  • Charting system: Epic (required); additional equipment includes ION robotic-assisted bronchoscopy system, Omnicell, and Alaris
  • Anesthesia team provides 100% sedation coverage
  • Variable shift schedule rotating through: 0630–1500, 0730–1600, 0830–1700, and 0900–1800
  • 36 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation every 3rd weekend
  • On-call required: one overnight shift per week (7p–7a) and every 3rd weekend
  • Floating may occur within Pre-Op, PACU, or as helping hands on the floor; travelers will not be floated to the Main OR as primary RN
  • 2 out of 4 major holidays required

Requirements

  • Active RN license — South Dakota license or Compact RN license currently in hand
  • Current certifications: BLS and ACLS
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience in a Level I or Level II Trauma Center
  • Hands-on endoscopy experience required, including advanced procedures (EUS, EBUS, ERCP)
  • Two professional references dated within the last year required for consideration
  • DOB and SSN required for consideration
  • Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from the facility to be eligible

Additional Information

  • Endoscopy team typically consists of an RN and Endo Tech (x6 staff on unit); anesthesia is present for all procedures
  • On-call overnight shifts are accommodated with a sleep room available in the Pre-Op/PACU area and couches in the break room; 15-minute response time required
  • Unit orientation is 1 week
  • Scrubs are provided by the facility
  • Free parking is available on-site
  • First-time travelers are not automatically accepted — email for manager approval prior to submission
  • Former permanent staff must wait a full year before returning as a traveler
  • Time off requests require manager approval; low-census volunteer time off (without pay) may be available
