Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a night shift Med/Surg position in Smyrna, TN, requiring at least 1 year of Med/Surg experience and an active TN or compact RN license.
Details
- Located in the Main Hospital building on the 3rd Floor Med/Surg unit (54 beds, including an 11-bed dedicated ortho/spine unit)
- Patient population includes general medical/surgical, orthopedic and spine, stable traumas, psych medical hold, post-catheterization (w/o intervention), lap appy/chole, thoracentesis/paracentesis, IR special procedures, HD/peritoneal dialysis, CBI, and more
- RN patient ratio is 1:5–6; RN/LPN teams share a total of 10 patients per hall, supported by PCTs (1:12–15)
- Equipment includes Alaris pumps, remote telemetry, continuous pulse ox, specialty beds, transfer equipment, wound vacs, chest tubes, NG and feeding tubes, bladder scanners, and a 12-lead EKG machine
- Documentation system: Meditech
- Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- At least one weekend shift required per 4-week scheduling period
- Floating is at the unit's discretion
- 13-week travel contract
Requirements
- Active TN or compact RN license required
- BLS certification required (AHA or ARC accepted); ACLS preferred but optional
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience; at least 1 year must be in Med/Surg
- Strong assessment, prioritization, critical thinking, and time management skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
- US SSN and DOB required for consideration
- One professional reference required
- No employment gaps of 90 days or more within the past 12 months
- Certifications must not expire within the first 30 days of the assignment start date

- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not eligible
- RN/LPN team structure supported by unit secretaries (until 8 PM on weekdays), techs, and externs
- Technology in use includes Teletracking for bed placement, MobiLab, PatientKeeper, Inspire App, and Wound Capture
- The facility holds several notable recognitions: ACS Certified, Hernia Center of Excellence, Spine & Joint Accredited, Unit of Distinction Honorable Mention (2022), and Leapfrog Top 100 Hospital
- The unit is known for strong team culture, experienced nursing staff, supportive leadership, and flexible scheduling
- Grey scrubs are required
- Unit-specific guidelines and policies are provided upon pre-boarding
