Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) position at a Trauma Level III teaching hospital, requiring at least 2 years of critical care experience and CVICU-specific skills including management of vasoactive medications, invasive lines, and mechanical support devices.

- CVICU unit with 14 private rooms, including two negative pressure rooms, at a 457-bed Trauma Level III teaching hospital with a Chest Pain Center, Stroke Center of Excellence, and Bariatric Center of Excellence
- Patient population includes STEMI (unstable), cardiogenic shock, cardiac arrest, thoracic surgery, and CT surgery cases (CABG, valve repair, and dissection)
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2
- 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, 36 hours per week
- Weekend rotation every other weekend; no on-call requirements
- Scheduling cycle runs every 6 weeks
- EMR: Epic; IV pump: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; patient monitors: Philips
- Floating may be required within Region 1, which includes Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, and Central Division facilities (CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH – pediatrics only)
Requirements
- Active NC or Compact RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 2 years of critical care experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency in management of vasoactive medications, surgical drains, chest tubes, ventilators, and CRRT
- Experience with invasive lines including arterial lines, PA catheters, and transvenous pacemakers
- Experience with invasive mechanical support devices including IABP and Impella strongly preferred
- Epic EMR experience
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
Additional Information
- Support staff includes a charge nurse (who may or may not carry a patient assignment), an IV/VAT team, respiratory therapy available 24/7, and an intensivist on-site 24/7
- Orientation includes facility-level NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; any missed contracted hours must be made up at the end of the contract
- Required scrub color is navy; parking is available at no cost
- First-time travelers are not preferred but will be considered
- Former employees must have been separated from any Advocate Health Southeast (AHSE) facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position before being eligible
