Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week ICU travel assignment at a Level II Trauma Center, requiring at least 2 years of ICU experience and active NE or Compact RN licensure.

Details

  • Acute care ICU setting at a Level II Trauma Center with 33 beds and an average daily census of 16 patients
  • Patient population includes trauma, cardiac, overdose/substance abuse, sepsis, post-stent, pacemaker placement, stroke, vascular, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress cases
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2-3 for adult patients
  • RNs are required to titrate drips including cardiac drips, insulin, and sedation
  • RNs are required to manage respiratory equipment ranging from nasal cannula to mechanical ventilation
  • RNs must read, interpret, and document telemetry strips; GE monitors are used with tele tech oversight
  • Charting is performed in Epic
  • 12-hour night shifts (1830–0630)
  • Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) required
  • Floating may occur to PCU or occasionally Med/Surg, with patient ratios of 1:4–1:5 on those units
  • When placed on call, RNs must be able to arrive on-site within 30 minutes if called back in

Requirements

  • Active NE state or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses will not be accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS; pending certifications will not be accepted
  • Experience with Epic EMR preferred
  • Ability to titrate drips and operate respiratory support equipment required
  • Driver's license required for consideration and will be used to verify permanent address

Additional Information

  • Candidate must reside at least 50 miles from the facility; driver's license is used to confirm permanent address
  • Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity Health, within the past year are not eligible; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
  • A pass/fail, open-book skills exam is administered during orientation on Wednesdays; a score of 90% or higher is required to pass
  • Unit-specific orientation consists of 1 shift
  • Two professional references are required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments; refusal to comply will result to contract termination
  • Nurse aide support is available based on census; a Healthcare Support Tech is present 3 days per week (Mon–Fri, 0800–1630)
  • Minimum of 2 holidays falling within the contract period are required
  • Block scheduling is not available except for weekend-only requests; shared scheduling for duos or carpooling partners is not accommodated
  • RTO requests of 7 days or fewer per 13-week contract must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved
  • Self-scheduling is available for core staff; traveler shifts are added in by the unit
