Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Interventional Radiology position at a Level II Trauma Center in Montgomery, AL, requiring ACLS, NIHSS, and moderate sedation experience.

Details

  • Work in an Interventional Radiology unit with 7 pre/post bays and 2 procedural suites at a 492-bed Level II Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center
  • Treats both outpatient and inpatient cases including biopsies, UFEs, kyphoplasties, port placements, diagnostic angiograms, interventional arterial and venous procedures, IVC placement, venous thrombectomies, neurological thrombectomies, coilings, aneurysm rupture repair, paracentesis, and thoracentesis
  • Patient ratios are 1:1 in procedure rooms and up to 1:3 in the pre/post area
  • EMR: Cerner; IV pumps: Plum 360; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Spacelabs
  • Unit operates for routine procedures Monday–Friday, 6:30 AM–4:30 PM and is available for emergencies 24/7
  • Two shift options available: four 10-hour shifts per week (6:30 AM–4:30 PM) or three 12-hour shifts per week, both with a rotating day off
  • On-call is staffing dependent but typically every 4th weekend and one night per week
  • Floating may be required to other procedural areas where skillset applies (e.g., cath lab pre/post area)

Requirements

  • Active AL RN license or compact RN license required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 1 year of IR or related RN experience required; first-time travelers must have at least 2 years of experience
  • ICU care experience required
  • Experience with moderate sedation, arterial lines, medication titration, and chest tubes required
  • Cerner EMR experience preferred
  • One reference from a charge nurse or above within the past 12 months required for consideration
  • SSN and date of birth (day and month) required for consideration
  • Copies of current certifications required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Candidates must reside more than 60 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
  • Former permanent staff must wait 6 months before being considered as a traveler
  • Orientation consists of approximately 2 shifts on the unit and 1–2 shifts in education/onboarding
  • Holiday coverage is shared equally between core and travel staff; staff are required to cover one winter holiday (Christmas Day, Thanksgiving, or New Year's Day) and one summer holiday (July 4th, Memorial Day, or Labor Day)
  • Time off requests are approved by the manager
  • Scrubs may be any color; green scrubs are provided when working in the procedure room
  • Parking is available in assigned hospital areas and the parking deck
  • An interview is required prior to any offer being extended

Pros

Fairly traveler friendly in the ER specifically. Trauma experiences daily so great for gaining experience. New remodeling. Cerner. ER ratio 1:4 & ER CCU ratio 1:2-3 Pharmacist in ER. Respiratory Therapist in ER.

Cons

It can be a little cliquey with core staff. Management obviously have favorites. Cerner. New remodeling means ER Travelers are going to be holding patients and the ratio is usually 1:5 for holds. Residents.
