Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a PCU Float Pool position requiring a KS/compact RN license, 2 years of recent specialty experience, and availability to float across multiple Med/Surg Intermediate and PCU departments and metro campuses.
Details
- This is a float pool position — no home unit is assigned; clinician will float between approximately 5 Med/Surg Intermediate/PCU units across multiple metro campuses as needed
- Diverse patient population including heart failure, MI, stroke, COPD, pulmonary embolism, bacteremia, cellulitis, seizures, alcohol withdrawal, and more
- Patient ratio of 1:6
- Charting via Epic
- Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (18:45–07:15)
- 8 weekend shifts required per 6-week schedule period, with shifts falling on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday
- No on-call requirements
- Block scheduling not available
Requirements
- Active RN license in both Kansas and Missouri, or a compact license, must be in hand at time of consideration — unwillingness to obtain both may result in cancellation
- Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required; ACLS preferred
- Minimum 2 years of recent PCU/telemetry specialty experience required, including at least 1 full year of in-specialty experience within the past 12 months with no employment gap greater than 90 days
- Required cardiac skills: dysrhythmia interpretation and management, telemetry monitoring, Rapid Response Team use, post-MI and pre/post cardiac cath care, cardiac drip management (no titration), and heparin protocols
- Required respiratory skills: chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), external CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, tracheostomy management, and non-invasive airway management
- Required IV/vascular skills: IV starts, peripheral and central line care, PICC line management, port access, blood product administration, and phlebotomy
- Additional required skills: IV insulin protocols, feeding tube care, continuous bladder irrigation, pre/post hemodialysis management, PCA management, surgical drain care, wound care/wound vac, and isolation precautions
- 2 professional references required — one must be supervisor level or above, the second may be a charge RN; both must be from someone who has worked with the candidate within the past year
- Candidates must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to be eligible
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Holiday shift coverage and Charge RN assignments may be required as needed per unit
- RTO is capped at 7 days for the contract period
- Approximately 10–15 hours of onboarding modules are required as part of compliance prior to the start date
- Travel partners will not be accommodated for this position
- SSN must be provided at time of consideration along with any RTO and scheduling requests
