Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position at a Level I Trauma teaching hospital, requiring at least 2 years of nursing experience and cardiac PCU skillset.
Details
- Progressive care unit (PCU) focused on cardiovascular diagnoses including congestive heart failure, post-myocardial infarction, pulmonary hypertension, cardiac arrhythmias, COPD, congenital heart defects, and infective endocarditis
- Cares for patients post-cath lab procedures, pre-LVAD placements, pre-heart/lung transplants, and pre-valve replacement
- Patient ratio of 1:4
- Day shift, 3x12-hour shifts (7:00–19:30)
- Weekend requirement is based on unit needs; must be available to work 50% of weekends during the contract
- Travelers may be required to float to different levels of care (Med-Surg, PCU, ICU) at both hospital campuses, with resources provided
- Charting performed in Cerner (experience required)
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active IN or Compact RN license currently in hand
- BLS certification required (AHA or RQI accepted); ACLS preferred
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required
- Level I Trauma experience required
- Required skills: Cardiac PCU, drips, post-cath lab care, IV starts, and sheath pulls
- Preferred skills: Conscious sedation and telemetry monitoring
- Cerner EMR experience required
- Nursing degree from an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited program required
- 2 supervisor references required for consideration
- SSN and date of birth required for consideration
Additional Information
- This is an academic teaching facility; all travel nurses must be willing to precept and/or have students shadow them during their assignment
- Charge nurse responsibilities may be assigned based on operational needs, with training and resources provided
- Must be willing to float within the hospital or to an affiliate hospital nearby
- Holiday coverage required — must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Local candidates (Indiana residents) are not accepted for this position
- Former permanent or PRN employees of IU Health must have a 12-month break before applying as a traveler
- Current or past IU travelers who have accrued 12 months of travel employment within IU Health must take a consecutive break to reset eligibility (90 days for out-of-state residents; 180 days for in-state residents)
- Up to 5 days of RTO may be auto-approved
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
