Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position at a Level I Trauma teaching hospital, requiring at least 2 years of nursing experience and cardiac PCU skillset.

Details

• Progressive care unit (PCU) focused on cardiovascular diagnoses including congestive heart failure, post-myocardial infarction, pulmonary hypertension, cardiac arrhythmias, COPD, congenital heart defects, and infective endocarditis
• Cares for patients post-cath lab procedures, pre-LVAD placements, pre-heart/lung transplants, and pre-valve replacement
• Patient ratio of 1:4
• Day shift, 3x12-hour shifts (7:00–19:30)
• Weekend requirement is based on unit needs; must be available to work 50% of weekends during the contract
• Travelers may be required to float to different levels of care (Med-Surg, PCU, ICU) at both hospital campuses, with resources provided
• Charting performed in Cerner (experience required)
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active IN or Compact RN license currently in hand
• BLS certification required (AHA or RQI accepted); ACLS preferred
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required
• Level I Trauma experience required
• Required skills: Cardiac PCU, drips, post-cath lab care, IV starts, and sheath pulls
• Preferred skills: Conscious sedation and telemetry monitoring
• Cerner EMR experience required
• Nursing degree from an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited program required
• 2 supervisor references required for consideration
• SSN and date of birth required for consideration

Additional Information

• This is an academic teaching facility; all travel nurses must be willing to precept and/or have students shadow them during their assignment
• Charge nurse responsibilities may be assigned based on operational needs, with training and resources provided
• Must be willing to float within the hospital or to an affiliate hospital nearby
• Holiday coverage required — must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
• Local candidates (Indiana residents) are not accepted for this position
• Former permanent or PRN employees of IU Health must have a 12-month break before applying as a traveler
• Current or past IU travelers who have accrued 12 months of travel employment within IU Health must take a consecutive break to reset eligibility (90 days for out-of-state residents; 180 days for in-state residents)
• Up to 5 days of RTO may be auto-approved
