Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU position at a Level I Trauma, Magnet teaching hospital, requiring strong neuro experience including EVD, craniotomy, and burr hole proficiency.
Details
- Work in a 2W Neuro ICU at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated, academic teaching hospital
- Patient population consists primarily of neuroscience patients with some medical and surgical overflow, including hemorrhagic stroke, SAH, aneurysms and other vascular malformations, mild to severe TBI and SCI, planned tumor resections, ischemic stroke requiring tPA and/or thrombectomy, seizure disorders, and neuro infections
- TJC Comprehensive Stroke Center-accredited unit
- Patient ratio is 1:2 on both day and night shifts
- Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:30
- Every other weekend required
- Floating required as needed to other ICU units or boarding patients
- Telemetry proficiency is required, including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias; a telemetry test will be administered
- Charting via Epic (experience preferred but not required)
- No on-call requirements
- Block scheduling is not available
Requirements
- Active WA RN license or Compact RN license — pending licenses are not accepted
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Strong neuro ICU experience required
- Proficiency with EVD (external ventricular drain), craniotomy, and burr hole procedures required
- Proficient telemetry interpretation and dysrhythmia management required
- Prior Level I Trauma and/or teaching hospital experience preferred
- COVID vaccination and booster required — no exceptions
- 2 professional references required for consideration
Additional Information
- First-time travelers may be considered if they have prior Level I Trauma experience and a strong work history; seasoned travelers are strongly preferred
- Prior UW Health System staff must have been separated from the facility for at least 18 months before returning as a traveler
- Local candidates are accepted at the same rates with no radius restriction
- RTO cannot be requested during orientation week and should be kept to a minimum
- Any solid color scrubs are acceptable; light blue scrubs are also provided on the unit
- Onsite parking is available at a daily cost; offsite parking with shuttle service is also available (weekdays only, no nights, weekends, or holidays)
- 13-week minimum contract; interest in a longer assignment is welcomed
