Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift ICU travel position at a Level III trauma hospital in Florence, AL, requiring a minimum of 5 years of critical care experience and strong advanced ICU skills.

Details

  • Night shift schedule: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
  • Work setting is a hospital Critical Care Services unit (2nd floor), with a home unit of the CCU
  • Adult and geriatric patient population with diagnoses including respiratory failure, ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, STEMI/NSTEMI, cardiogenic and septic shock, GI bleeds, post-operative GI disorders, CABGs, and vascular procedures
  • Patient ratios: CCU 1:2–1:3, CVICU 1:2–1:3, CCSD 1:4–1:5, Med-Surg 1:6
  • Unit beds: CCU (22), CVICU (14, variable), CCSD (31)
  • Equipment includes SpaceLabs bedside monitoring (continuous ECG, O2, respiratory, BP, CVP, PA monitoring), Baxter/Spectrum IV pumps, Kangaroo feeding pumps, Hill-Rom critical care beds, ventilators (variety), Prismaflex CRRT machines, intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP), Blanketrols, Arctic Sun, rapid-transfusion/fluid warming devices, and Zoll monitoring
  • EHR: Meditech (clinical access for ICU patients)
  • Every other weekend required
  • No on-call requirements
  • Float requirements include CVICU overflow, Critical Care Step-Down (CCSD), and Med-Surg; travelers float first if critical care areas are fully staffed

Requirements

  • Active AL RN license or compact RN license required
  • Current AHA certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Minimum 5 years of critical care/ICU experience required
  • Proficiency in ICU skills including IV starts and blood draws, NG tube placement, ECG rhythm interpretation, lab and ABG interpretation, critical care drips and titrations, ventilator management, arterial lines, chest tubes, and central venous lines (including large-volume Vas Caths)
  • Ability to assist physicians with bedside procedures and conscious sedation
  • Smartphone required for physician communication via TigerConnect app
  • Strong time management skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • SSN and date of birth required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Level III trauma hospital
  • Preferred experience includes prior work in a teaching hospital with resident physicians, high-acuity ICU managing CRRT, IABP, and arterial sheath pulls, and background in SICU, MICU, CVICU, Neuro ICU, or PCU/Med-Surg
  • iStat and glucometer certifications, as well as Moderate Sedation/Analgesia training, will be completed as part of online onboarding (Lifetalent)
  • Scrub color requirement: royal blue scrub pants required at all times; solid neutral-colored or NAMC-logo tops (T-shirts, sweatshirts, or vests) are acceptable
  • Candidates must reside more than 60 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
  • Candidates who have worked permanent staff at any LifePoint facility within the last 12 months are not eligible
  • Candidates who are employed full-time elsewhere are not eligible
