Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Oncology position at a Level II Trauma facility, requiring 2 years of experience, Epic proficiency, and a WV or compact RN license.

Details

• Acute care Med/Surg Oncology unit (6S Post-OP/Oncology/Tele) in a 36-bed unit at a Level II Trauma hospital
• Patient population includes general Med/Surg patients, post-op patients (lap chole, lap appy — no post-op ortho), and oncology patients with complications such as neutropenic precautions, pneumonia, and infections
• Occasional psych patients may be assigned with a 1:1 sitter
• Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5–6
• Unit utilizes Phillips telemetry monitors with a central monitor tech for the hospital; RNs must be able to read and interpret strips independently
• Heparin is the only titratable drip used on this unit — no cardiac drips
• CPAP and BiPAP are present on the unit and managed by Respiratory Therapy
• Charting is done in Epic
• 3 CNAs are available on both day and night shifts
• 12-hour day shifts (7a–7p)
• Every-other-weekend requirement (Saturday and Sunday for both days and nights)
• Floating may be required to other Med/Surg/Tele units
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• Current BLS certification (AHA) required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Experience with chest tubes strongly preferred, including PleurX chest tubes
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips required
• Epic EMR experience required
• A copy of a valid, unexpired driver's license is required for consideration

Additional Information

• ONS/ONCC (Chemotherapy/Biotherapy) certification is a plus; permanent staff administer chemotherapy, travelers do not
• Charge nurse coverage is available 24/7; day charge nurses do not take a patient assignment, night charge nurses do
• Holiday rotation is shared with permanent staff
• Travelers must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
• Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before re-applying
• Travelers may not work within the WVU system for more than one cumulative year without taking a 2-year break
• Royal blue scrubs are required
• Artificial nails are not permitted
