Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel Occupational Therapist with acute care experience for a rehabilitation services unit at a teaching hospital in Alabama, working 8-hour day shifts on a 13-week contract.
Details
- Inpatient rehabilitation services unit within an acute care hospital setting
- High-acuity, complex patient population including post-cardiac and cardiovascular surgery, post-orthopedic/joint procedures, trauma, and post-stroke patients
- 8-hour day shift, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, with hours that may vary based on departmental needs
- 40 hours per week; 10-hour shifts are not supported by this department
- Occasional weekend rotation depending on departmental needs during the contract
- No on-call requirements
- No floating between facilities
- Cerner EMR used; prior experience not required
- Teaching facility with students present on the unit
Requirements
- Current AL OT license required if applicable
- Current BLS certification required
- Minimum 1 year of OT experience with familiarity in acute care settings
- Ability to independently evaluate, treat, and manage a full caseload
- Comfort working in a teaching facility alongside students
- Strong efficiency, flexibility, and team collaboration skills
- 1 reference from a charge-level or above supervisor within the past 12 months required for consideration
- DOB (day and month) and full SSN required for consideration
- Copy of certifications required for consideration
Additional Information
- First-time travelers will be considered for this position
- Candidates must reside more than 60 miles from the facility to be eligible
- Former permanent staff must wait 6 months before being considered as a traveler
- Holiday coverage will depend on departmental needs; time off requests must be submitted for any holidays the candidate is unable to work
- Orientation consists of approximately 1 week: Day 1 includes general hospital orientation and learning modules, Day 2 includes departmental training and a Cerner refresher
- Supported by a supervisor, manager, a multidisciplinary team, and typically 6 OTs on shift simultaneously
- Professional scrubs required; matching top and bottom in any non-eccentric color
- Free parking available on site
- An interview with the hiring manager is required prior to any offer

Fairly traveler friendly in the ER specifically. Trauma experiences daily so great for gaining experience. New remodeling. Cerner. ER ratio 1:4 & ER CCU ratio 1:2-3 Pharmacist in ER. Respiratory Therapist in ER.
Cons
It can be a little cliquey with core staff. Management obviously have favorites. Cerner. New remodeling means ER Travelers are going to be holding patients and the ratio is usually 1:5 for holds. Residents.
