Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position requiring a minimum of 2 years of ED experience and the ability to float across multiple regional facilities.
Details
- Work in a 43-bed Emergency Department at a 337-bed hospital with a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center designation (no trauma designation)
- Patient population spans pediatric to geriatric, with common presentations including stroke, acute MI, respiratory illness, behavioral health, uncontrolled diabetes, and trauma stabilization for transfer
- ED includes 8 Clinical Decision beds for Behavioral Health (unlocked) and averages approximately 145 patients per day
- 25–30% admission rate
- RN-to-patient ratio of 1:3–4, based on acuity
- 12-hour night shifts, 7p–7a, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Floating is required across Region 2 facilities, including Pineville, Anson, Union, Union West, any Freestanding ED within the region, and the Central Division (CMC Main, CMC Mercy, and Levine Children's Hospital) — candidates who are not agreeable to floating should not apply
- EMR: Epic (experience required)
- IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips; additional equipment includes Rover Communication, Panda Infant Warmer, and LUCAS
- No on-call requirements
Requirements
- Active RN license — NC or Compact license required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, and CPI
- TNCC preferred
- Minimum 2 years of ED experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- General ED skillset required, including cardiac rhythm interpretation, experience with critical care drips, PIV starts, TNK/TPA administration, and conscious sedation
- Epic EMR experience required
- Candidate's permanent address must be located more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
Additional Information
- Department support includes HCT/Unit Secretary (1:8–10 ratio), paramedic, free-floating charge nurse, patient safety attendants, dedicated ED pharmacist (7a–11p), social worker, RT (24/7), ED physicians and APPs, geriatric APP, hospitalist (24/7), and intensivist (24/7)
- Orientation includes general new employee orientation (NEO) followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
- Required scrub color: Navy blue
- Free parking available on-site
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
- Candidates who have worked a permanent position at any AHSE facility must be separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
- A clinical interview is required
