Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a PCU/Oncology Float Pool position requiring chemo certification, 2 years of PCU experience, and flexibility to work across multiple hospital campuses.
Details
- Float pool position covering PCU/Oncology units across four hospital campuses (two in La Jolla, one in Hillcrest, one in La Mesa)
- Patient populations include general medicine, surgical, neuro, oncology, cardiac, and orthopedics
- Patient ratios: IMU 1:3, Telemetry 1:4, Med/Surg 1:5
- May float to emergency department inpatient overflow (EDIP)
- Will also float down to Med/Surg units when census permits
- Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:00)
- 4-week schedules are provided two weeks in advance with no blocked or self-scheduling
- RNs receive a call 2 hours before each shift indicating which facility they will work that day
- EMR: Epic and Pyxis (Cerner experience preferred)
Requirements
- Active CA RN license required
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Chemo certification required
- Minimum 2 years of PCU experience required
- At least 1 year of experience in an acute care setting required
- Skills required: IV start, telemetry monitoring, phlebotomy, and arterial line (A-line) management
- Must be comfortable working across all four float pool campus locations
- At least one supervisory or director-level reference from the past year is required for consideration
- A second reference from within the past 2 years (charge nurse, co-worker, or educator acceptable) is also required
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates are accepted
- Candidates who have previously been employed by this health system must receive facility approval before starting an assignment
- Former employees must have been gone for at least 1 year to be eligible to return as a traveler
- No RTO (time off) requests permitted within the first 2 weeks of the assignment; RTO requests submitted at the start cannot be changed after submission
- A pass/fail EKG exam is required (3 attempts allowed)
- Any RTO requests must be disclosed upfront at time of consideration
