Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Telemetry position requiring a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, including telemetry and PCU/step-down experience, with night shift availability and floating requirements.
Details
- Cardiac Telemetry unit in an acute care hospital setting
- Patient population includes Congestive Heart Failure, arrhythmias, and post-cardiac cath diagnoses
- Patient ratio of 1:6–7
- Specialized procedures include cardiac drips (Dobutamine, Amiodarone, Cardizem, Milrinone, Dopamine, etc.), sheath pulls, TR Bands, and Femstop
- EMR: Epic (also uses Pyxis for medication and SBAR for communication)
- 12-hour night shifts (18:45–07:15), 3 shifts per week (36 hours/week)
- Contracts available in 13–26 week lengths
- Requires working 5–6 weekend shifts per contract period (approximately every other weekend)
- Floating required as needed — potential to float every shift
- Self-scheduling per unit needs
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
- Telemetry and PCU/DOU/IMC/step-down experience required
- Proficiency in interpretation of dysrhythmias and remote monitoring required
- Experience with pre/post cardiac cath, pre/post cardiac surgery, and sheath removal required
- Skills required: accessing ports, blood product administration, central line/care management, PICC line management, and cardiac drip titration (Diltiazem, Amiodarone)
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
- Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 2 years required prior to start
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification preferred
- Charge nurse experience preferred
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Unit orientation is 24 hours; weekly orientation schedule
- Pre-start modules of approximately 8–10 hours are required and must be completed annually
- Navy scrubs required; scrubs are not provided by the facility
- Candidates must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- No RTO is permitted during the first week of assignment due to orientation; RTO of up to 7 days may be approved as long as it does not fall on a holiday
- Contract staff may be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and could be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters
- Previous permanent, PRN, or EP employees of this health system must wait 12 months before applying as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required
- Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are accepted
- Travel pairs are allowed, provided each traveler has their own transportation and is comfortable with potentially different schedules
- Nurse manager interview required prior to offer finalization
