Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Telemetry position requiring a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, including telemetry and PCU/step-down experience, with night shift availability and floating requirements.

Details

  • Cardiac Telemetry unit in an acute care hospital setting
  • Patient population includes Congestive Heart Failure, arrhythmias, and post-cardiac cath diagnoses
  • Patient ratio of 1:6–7
  • Specialized procedures include cardiac drips (Dobutamine, Amiodarone, Cardizem, Milrinone, Dopamine, etc.), sheath pulls, TR Bands, and Femstop
  • EMR: Epic (also uses Pyxis for medication and SBAR for communication)
  • 12-hour night shifts (18:45–07:15), 3 shifts per week (36 hours/week)
  • Contracts available in 13–26 week lengths
  • Requires working 5–6 weekend shifts per contract period (approximately every other weekend)
  • Floating required as needed — potential to float every shift
  • Self-scheduling per unit needs

Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license required
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
  • Telemetry and PCU/DOU/IMC/step-down experience required
  • Proficiency in interpretation of dysrhythmias and remote monitoring required
  • Experience with pre/post cardiac cath, pre/post cardiac surgery, and sheath removal required
  • Skills required: accessing ports, blood product administration, central line/care management, PICC line management, and cardiac drip titration (Diltiazem, Amiodarone)
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start
  • Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 2 years required prior to start
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification preferred
  • Charge nurse experience preferred

Additional Information

  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Unit orientation is 24 hours; weekly orientation schedule
  • Pre-start modules of approximately 8–10 hours are required and must be completed annually
  • Navy scrubs required; scrubs are not provided by the facility
  • Candidates must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
  • No RTO is permitted during the first week of assignment due to orientation; RTO of up to 7 days may be approved as long as it does not fall on a holiday
  • Contract staff may be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and could be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters
  • Previous permanent, PRN, or EP employees of this health system must wait 12 months before applying as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required
  • Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are accepted
  • Travel pairs are allowed, provided each traveler has their own transportation and is comfortable with potentially different schedules
  • Nurse manager interview required prior to offer finalization
