Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Intermediate Care (IMC)/Stepdown position at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated acute care hospital in Springfield, IL, requiring telemetry and PCU experience with night shift availability.

- IMC/Stepdown unit within a 562-bed, Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated acute care hospital in Springfield, IL
- Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts (1845–0715)
- Every other weekend required
- No on-call requirements
- Floating within scope is required, including to nearby affiliate hospitals
- Patient population includes cardiac, neurological, orthopedic, respiratory, renal, and post-surgical cases
- Required cardiac monitoring skills include interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, telemetry monitoring, and use of Rapid Response Teams
- Cardiovascular case experience includes Post MI, Pre/Post Cardiac Cath, Pre/Post Cardiac Surgery, Post Cardiac Angiogram, Sheath Removal, and TR Band
- Neurological case experience includes CVA, TBI, craniotomy, spinal cord injury, and Pre/Post neurosurgery
- Respiratory skills required include ventilator management, tracheostomy care, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), BIPAP/CPAP, HFNC, and ABG interpretation
- IV therapy skills required include arterial line management, central line care, PICC line management, port access, blood product administration, and phlebotomy
- Medication management includes titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips, heparin protocols, PCA, and procedural sedation administration
- Additional skills required: feeding tube care, pre/post hemodialysis management, wound care/wound vac, isolation precautions, peripheral nerve block catheters, and surgical drain management
- Charting system: Cerner (experience preferred)
- Parking is available at no cost with a permit obtained during orientation
- Scrub color: any solid color
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required at time of consideration — pending licensure is not accepted
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience in a Stepdown, PCU, DOU, IMC, or Neuro Stepdown setting required
- Required certifications: BLS and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) — AHA and Red Cross accepted; RQI cards are not accepted
- ACLS preferred
- Active certifications must be in hand at time of consideration
- Cerner EMR experience preferred
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Level I Trauma experience preferred
- SSN and DOB required for consideration
- First-time travelers are not eligible for this position
Additional Information
- Candidate must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- RTO requests are ideally no more than 5 days; requests exceeding 5 days require facility approval
- Former permanent or PRN employees of the Memorial Hospital System must have been separated for at least 12 months before being considered as a traveler
- Travel pairs are not accepted — candidates must be placed individually
- Local candidates are accepted with no radius restriction
- Block scheduling may be available — discuss with manager
