Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position in an Emergency Observation Unit at a Level III Trauma Teaching Hospital in Concord, NC, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and strong cardiac and stroke skillsets.

- Emergency Observation Unit in a 457-bed Level III Trauma Teaching Hospital with designations including Chest Pain Center, Stroke Center of Excellence, and Bariatric Center of Excellence
- 10-bed unit with an average daily census of 8 patients
- Patient population includes chest pain, syncope, and angina
- RN-to-patient ratio of 1:5
- Required skills include stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, and drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, Foley insertion/management, etc.)
- Medication drip management required, including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IVF
- EMR: Epic
- IV Pumps: Alaris; Medication Dispensing: Omnicell
- 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM (0650–1910), 36 hours per week
- Weekend rotation every other weekend
- Holiday coverage required for 75% of assigned holidays
- Floating required within Region 1, which includes Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, and Central Division facilities (CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH – peds only); candidates must be willing to float to any facility in the region as needed
- Schedule is posted in 6-week cycles
Requirements
- Active NC RN license or Compact RN license currently in hand
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation, stroke care, and general Med/Tele clinical skills
- Epic EMR experience
- Candidate's permanent address must be located at least 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
Additional Information
- Department support includes a Supervisor, Charge RN, Resource RN (assists with admissions/discharges), Respiratory Therapy (24/7, shared), Hospitalist (24/7, shared), Phlebotomy (shared between RNs and IV team), and an IV/VAT Team
- Orientation includes a facility NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
- A clinical interview is required for this position
- RTO: Up to 6 days off may be approved, excluding holidays
- Candidates who have previously held a permanent position at an Advocate Health Southeast (AHSE) facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
- First-time travelers are not preferred but will be considered
- Scrubs: Navy
