Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Post Surgical Care Med/Surg Tele position at a Level III Trauma teaching hospital, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and a valid NC or compact RN license.

- Post Surgical Care unit in a 457-bed, Level III Trauma, academic teaching hospital that is also a designated Chest Pain Center, Stroke Center of Excellence, and Bariatric Center of Excellence
- 28-bed unit serving post-surgical patients including orthopedic, spine, vascular, and trauma cases, as well as medical overflow
- Patient ratio of 1:4–6, with potential surge ratios of 1:7–8
- Remote telemetry monitoring utilized on unit
- EMR: Epic (experience required)
- Equipment includes BD Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Philips and Masimo monitors
- 12-hour day shifts, 0700–1900, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- Floating required within Region 1 (Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, and Central Division facilities including CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH) per regional needs — candidates who are not agreeable to floating should not apply
- No on-call requirements
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency in general post-surgical skills including incision care, patient assessment, drain and chest tube management, wound care/wound vacs, trach care, NG tube insertion, mobility assistance, and use of braces/traction
- Candidate must reside at least 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted
- One professional reference dated within the past year is required, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide post-surgical nursing care to a diverse patient population including orthopedic, spine, vascular, and trauma surgery patients
- Unit support includes CNAs (phlebotomy, ADLs, Foley insertion/removal, peripheral IV removal), a charge nurse, IV/VAT team, assigned mentor, RT 24/7, Hospitalist 24/7, House Supervisor, Behavioral Response Team (BERT), and Rapid Response/Code Team
- Orientation includes facility-level NEO and 2 days of departmental orientation
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; if contracted hours cannot be met, time must be added to the end of the contract
- Schedule runs on a 6-week cycle
- Scrubs: Navy

- Unit culture is described as positive and supportive
- Former employees of any AHSE facility must have been separated from a permanent position for at least 1 year before being considered
- First-time travelers are not preferred but will be considered
