Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Post Surgical Care Med/Surg Tele position at a Level III Trauma teaching hospital, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience and a valid NC or compact RN license.
Details
- 28-bed Post Surgical Care unit within a 457-licensed-bed Level III Trauma teaching hospital designated as a Chest Pain Center, Stroke Center of Excellence, and Bariatric Center of Excellence
- Patient population includes orthopedic surgery, spine surgery, trauma, vascular surgery, and medical overflow cases
- Patient ratios are 1:4–6, with surge ratios up to 1:7–8
- Post-surgical skills required include incision care, wound care/wound vacs, chest tubes, drains, trach care, NG tube insertion, use of braces/traction, and patient mobility and education
- EMR: Epic (experience required); IV pump: BD Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips and Masimo
- Remote telemetry monitoring is utilized on the unit
- 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM–7:00 AM, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- Floating required within Region 1 facilities (Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, and Central Division including CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH) within scope of practice — candidates unwilling to float to all listed facilities should not apply
- No on-call requirements
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- General post-surgical nursing skillset required
- Candidate's permanent address must be located at least 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
- At least the last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum one professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN is required for consideration
- Must have been separated from any Advocate Health Southeast (AHSE) facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position before being eligible
Additional Information
- Unit support includes CNAs (phlebotomy, ADLs, Foley insertion/removal, peripheral IV removal), charge nurse, IV/VAT team, assigned mentor, RT 24/7, hospitalist 24/7, house supervisor, patient safety attendants/virtual observation, Behavioral Response Team (BERT), and Rapid Response/Code Team
- Orientation consists of a facility-level NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; if contracted hours cannot be met, time must be added to the end of the contract
- Schedule runs on a 6-week cycle
- Required scrub color: Navy
- Free parking available in designated areas
- First-time travelers will be considered but are not preferred
- Unit culture is described as positive and supportive
