Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an Emergency Department position at a Level II Trauma Center in Illinois, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ED experience and an active IL RN license.
Details
- Work setting is a 280-bed acute care hospital, Level II Trauma Center
- 32-bed ED with a combined adult and pediatric patient population
- Patient-to-nurse ratio is 1:4 for all shifts
- Night shift schedule: 4x12-hour shifts (1900–0730)
- Weekends required as needed
- Floating within the hospital or to a nearby affiliate hospital is required of all travelers
- No on-call responsibilities
- Charting is performed in Cerner (experience preferred)
Requirements
- Active IL RN license (or ETA) required
- Minimum 2 years of ED experience required
- Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS), PALS, and TNCC — AHA and Red Cross cards accepted; RQI AHA cards are not accepted
- Experience in a general emergency department with combined adult/pediatric population required
- Level II Trauma Center experience required
- Cardiac monitoring skills required: dysrhythmia interpretation and management, 12-lead EKG acquisition, and management of multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
- IV therapy and phlebotomy skills required: blood product administration, central line care/management, phlebotomy, and starting IVs
- Medication administration skills required: continuous IV paralytics, continuous IV sedation, emergency medications, IV vasopressors, and procedural sedation
- Neurological case experience required: CVA, ICP monitoring, neuro-trauma, spinal cord injury, and traumatic brain injury
- Orthopedic trauma experience required
- Pediatric case experience required across a broad range of conditions including asthma, burns, seizures, psychiatric/behavioral concerns, and more
- Psychiatric case experience required: acute psychosis, drug overdose, managing violent behavior, psychiatric holds, and suicidal patients
- Respiratory skills required: chest tube insertion/management, CPAP/BiPAP, ABG interpretation, intubation, and ventilator management
- Shock/trauma experience required: gunshot wounds and traumatic amputation
- Triage and isolation precautions experience required
- Telemetry interpretation and ventilator experience required
- SSN and DOB required for consideration
Additional Information
- This is a Magnet-recognized, acute care hospital environment
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
- Cerner EMR experience preferred
- Scrub color: royal blue
- Free parking is available with a permit obtained during orientation
- Candidates must be prepared to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- RTO of up to 5 days is generally accommodated; requests exceeding 5 days require facility approval
- Former permanent or PRN employees of the Memorial Hospital System must have been separated for at least 12 months before applying as a traveler
- Travel pairs are not accepted
- Local candidates are accepted with no radius restriction
