Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift Emergency Department position at a Level III Trauma Center in Tuscaloosa, AL, requiring at least 2 years of experience with 1 year of recent ED specialty experience and an active AL or compact RN license.
Details
- Work setting is a 54-bed, state-designated Level III Trauma Center and Level II Stroke Center Emergency Department
- ED treats more than 60,000 patients per year across all age groups
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:1 for critical/trauma patients and 1:3–4 for all other patients
- Night shift schedule: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Every other weekend required
- Floating to other units and hospitals is required
- EMR system is Meditech (experience not required)
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active AL state or compact RN license required — no temporary or pending licenses accepted
- No hits (past or current) on nursing license permitted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience with at least 1 year of recent Emergency Department specialty experience
- Associate degree in nursing (ADN) or higher required
- Required certifications: AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, AHA PALS, NIH Stroke Scale, and TNCC
- SECURE on-site certification required
- Active license must be provided for consideration — no pending or temporary licenses accepted
- Current driver's license required
- Two professional references within the last year required
- NURSYS license verification required

- ED team includes physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, and support staff
- All ED RNs are required to complete an on-site test in addition to an online pre-test prior to starting
- Virtual orientation includes competency-based modules — no pre-start HealthStream modules required
- Scrub color requirement: solid navy
- Holiday coverage is required for all assigned holidays
- Local candidates are accepted with no radius restrictions
- Timekeeping system is Centricity
