Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience and EKG competency, with night shift availability and dysrhythmia management skills.

Details

  • Medical/Surgical Telemetry unit at a community hospital setting
  • Patient population includes diabetes, dementia, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, hip fracture, CHF, UTI, surgical recovery, renal failure, hypertension, cellulitis, and failure to thrive
  • Patient ratio of 1:6
  • Night shift: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM (4x12-hour shifts); 36 or 48 hours per week available
  • Every other weekend required
  • No on-call requirement
  • Floating may be required to the main campus (NHRMC), approximately 32 minutes away
  • Medication and supply system: Pyxis
  • Self-scheduling
  • Contract length of 13–20 weeks
  • Local candidates are accepted within 50 miles of the facility

Requirements

  • Active NC or Compact RN license required (license pending at time of consideration is acceptable)
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
  • Required certifications: BLS and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • Proficiency in telemetry remote monitoring, interpretation, and management of dysrhythmias
  • Experience with central line blood draws, PICC line management, peripheral line care, phlebotomy, and IV insertion/maintenance
  • Experience with medication administration including heparin, insulin, and PCA
  • Experience with respiratory support including BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC), and oxygen administration
  • Experience with chest tubes (Emerson/PleurEvac), wound care/wound vac, and isolation precautions/PPE
  • Experience with bowel/ostomy management, feeding tube care, and pre/post hemodialysis management
  • Must be able to work holidays
  • Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 2 years required (pending at time of consideration is acceptable)

Additional Information

  • Preferred skills include ACLS, on-unit telemetry monitoring, post-angiogram/cardiac surgery/MI care, IV insulin protocols, bariatric surgery, CBI, port access/management, CVA care, substance withdrawal, tracheostomy care, ABG interpretation, pre/post thoracic surgery, and prior charge experience
  • Preferred background includes community hospital experience and electronic documentation proficiency
  • Must pass an EKG competency test prior to start
  • Orientation is approximately 24 hours with a weekly orientation schedule; 8–10 hours of pre-start modules are required
  • Scrub color: navy blue or white
  • Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved per contract, provided it does not fall on a holiday and is not during the first week of orientation
  • Candidate must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
  • Contract staff may be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters
  • Previous permanent, PRN, or EP employees of Novant Health or New Hanover must wait 12 months before being considered for a travel assignment; facility rehire approval is required
  • Travel pairs are allowed, but each traveler must have their own transportation and be flexible with potentially different schedules
