Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience and EKG competency, with night shift availability and floating flexibility.
Details
- Med/Surg Telemetry unit in a community hospital setting
- Patient population includes diabetes, dementia, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, hip fractures, CHF, UTI, renal failure, hypertension, cellulitis, failure to thrive, and various surgical recovery cases
- Patient ratio of 1:6
- Night shift: 18:45–07:15 (3x12-hour shifts)
- Every other weekend required
- Floating may be required to the main campus approximately 32 minutes away
- Self-scheduling unit
- Contracts accepted at 13–20 weeks; 36 or 48 hours per week available
- No on-call requirement
- Medication and supply management via Pyxis
- Required skills include telemetry and remote monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, wound care/wound vac, chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac), BiPAP/CPAP, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC), central line blood draws, PICC line management, IV starts, heparin, insulin, PCA, phlebotomy, colostomy/ileostomy care, feeding tube management, pre/post hemodialysis management, and isolation precautions/PPE
- Preferred skills include ACLS, on-unit telemetry monitoring, post-angiogram and post-cardiac surgery care, post-MI care, IV insulin protocols, bariatric surgery, continuous bladder irrigation (CBI), port access and management, CVA care, substance withdrawal management, tracheostomy care, surgical drains, ABG interpretation, pre/post thoracic surgery, and charge nurse experience
Requirements
- Active NC RN license or compact RN license (may be pending at time of consideration)
- Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
- Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
- Must pass an EKG test prior to start
- Two professional supervisor/manager references from within the past 2 years required (pending at time of consideration is acceptable)
- Previous permanent, PRN, or EP employment with Novant Health or New Hanover requires a 12-month waiting period before applying as a traveler
Additional Information
- Orientation is approximately 24 hours, with weekly orientation sessions
- 8–10 hours of pre-start online modules required, completed via online learning, Zoom, webinar, or in-person classes; modules must also be completed annually
- Scrub color required: navy blue or white
- Candidate must be available for an interview within 72 hours of consideration
- Must be able to work 2 out of 3 major holidays; RTO cannot fall on holidays
- Up to 7 days of RTO per contract may be approved, with no RTO permitted during the first week due to orientation
- Contract staff may be assigned to a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team and may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters
- Mid-contract consolidation to a centralized office may occur, with possible reassignment to other units as needed
- Travel pairs are welcome; each traveler must have their own transportation and be comfortable with potentially different schedules
- Local candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are accepted
