Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Oncology position at a Level II Trauma facility in West Virginia, requiring 2 years of experience and Epic proficiency.

• 36-bed Med/Surg Oncology unit with telemetry capabilities in an acute care setting at a Level II Trauma facility
• Patient population includes general Med/Surg, post-op (laparoscopic cholecystectomy, appendectomy), and oncology patients with complications such as neutropenic precautions, pneumonia, and infections
• Telemetry monitoring via Philips monitors; a central monitor tech is available hospital-wide, but RNs must be able to independently read and interpret cardiac strips
• Typical nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6
• Heparin is the only drip administered on this unit; no cardiac drips
• Respiratory equipment on unit includes CPAP and BiPap, managed by Respiratory Therapy
• CNAs are available on both day and night shifts (3 per shift)
• Charge nurse available 24/7; day charge does not take a patient assignment, night charge does
• 12-hour day shifts (7a–7p)
• Every-other-weekend requirement (Saturday and Sunday for both day and night shifts)
• Floating may be required to other Med/Surg or Telemetry units
• Charting is performed in Epic

Requirements

• Active WV or Compact RN license required
• BLS certification (AHA) required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Ability to read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips
• Experience with chest tubes and PleurX chest tubes is strongly preferred
• Epic EMR experience required
• Valid, unexpired driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

• ONS/ONCC (Chemotherapy Biotherapy) certification is a strong plus; permanent staff administer chemotherapy, but oncology patient care experience is valuable
• Experience with PleurX chest tubes is highly desirable as malignant patients frequently discharge with them
• Occasional psych patients may be present on the unit, sometimes requiring 1:1 sitter coverage
• Holiday rotation is shared with permanent staff
• Royal blue scrubs are required; false nails are not permitted
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for the travel pay rate
• Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a minimum 2-year break before reapplying
• Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one cumulative year before a 2-year break is required
• All candidates will interview directly with the unit manager
