Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry Observation Unit position at a cancer hospital in Ohio, requiring at least 2 years of experience and telemetry skills.
Details
- Observation/MS/Tele/Oncology unit within a cancer hospital setting
- Patients are in observation status with anticipated short lengths of stay (up to two midnights), at which point a disposition decision is made
- Common diagnoses include dehydration and electrolyte abnormalities, nausea and vomiting, chemotherapy/radiation symptom management, acute kidney injury, palliative/pain control, UTI, syncope, post-procedure monitoring, hospice transition, PEG tube/line placement, and fever of unknown origin
- Patient-to-nurse ratio is 1:4 with a charge nurse in assignment; additional resources include RNs, PCAs, and UCAs
- Unit providers include APPs and supervising MDs
- Shift options include nights (7p–7:30a) or days (7a–7p), 3x12-hour shifts per week — traveler's preference
- May occasionally float to the ED to assist with inpatient Med/Surg Tele patients awaiting transfer to an acute care unit; orientation to the area will be provided
Requirements
- Active OH RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
- Current BLS certification required; ACLS and OCN preferred
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Proficiency in telemetry monitoring and interpretation of dysrhythmias required
- Experience with IV starts and PICC line management required
- MS/Tele experience required
- 2 professional references required: at least 1 must be from a Manager, Director, or formal leadership capacity (e.g., Supervisor); a Charge RN is acceptable as the second reference; co-worker references are not accepted
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates are accepted
- Former employees of the facility are eligible after a 6-month separation period
- RTO must be submitted upfront and built into the contract; requests are limited to 7 days or fewer
- All candidates are required to complete Ohio state fingerprinting promptly after accepting an assignment; detailed instructions will be provided by the credentialing team
- Navy blue or white scrubs required; scrubs are not provided by the facility
- Parking permits are available for purchase on-site through the campus parking system, with multiple options ranging from a convenient garage permit to a budget surface lot option with shuttle service

Units are nice, staff are kind. Single patient rooms with 4:1 ratios day and night on med surg.
Cons
Scheduled every weekend, floated for the first 6 weeks of contract every shift. Not traveler friendly even though they say they are. Staff are treated well not travelers.
