Description
American Traveler is seeking a Respiratory Therapist with 2+ years of ER, ICU, and inpatient adult experience for a 13-week night shift contract at an acute care hospital in Princeton, WV.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting with 127 total inpatient beds
- Respiratory Therapy department covering all inpatient areas, the ED, inpatient and outpatient EKGs, and outpatient bronchoscopies in a procedural setting
- Primarily adult patient population; facility also has a pediatric inpatient unit and a family birthing unit (no C-sections)
- ICU can have up to 8–9 ventilated patients at one time; therapists may handle 40–70 treatments per shift
- Therapists may be called to initiate CPAP on infants
- EMR: Expanse - hCare
- 12-hour night shifts (1845–0715); set schedules made 4 weeks in advance
- Every other weekend required; open to travelers who prefer to work weekends only
- Holiday coverage required if the holiday falls on a scheduled workday (Christmas and New Year's only)
- Floating within the facility only; no critical care transporting outside the facility
- No on-call or standby call requirements
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of experience in ER, ICU, and inpatient adult settings
- ER, ICU, and inpatient adult experience required; pediatric experience preferred (willing to train on peds)
- Required certifications: ACLS, BLS (AHA), CRT via NBRC, NRP, PALS, and STABLE
- RRT (via NBRC) preferred but not required
- Expanse - hCare EMR experience preferred
- Must reside more than 100 miles from the facility to qualify for this position
- Valid driver's license required for consideration
- Any licensing hits must be disclosed
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include breathing treatments, ventilator management, ABG draws and sample processing, and inpatient/outpatient EKGs
- Therapists assist with intubation but are not required to intubate independently
- Core RT staff may place arterial lines; travelers are not expected to perform this skill
- Ventilator equipment includes Puritan Bennett 840, Hamilton C1, Avea, BiPAP V60, and Vapotherm for high flow
- A lead therapist or supervisor is always available for support and questions
- Open ICU model with 2 on-staff pulmonologists and a hospitalist in-house 24/7
- Orientation consists of general orientation on day one, classroom orientation and modules on day two, followed by approximately 3 days of shadowing with a preceptor
- All travelers begin on inpatient units and branch out to other areas as skills are assessed on-site
- A second interview with the facility may be required
- Professional scrubs of any color required; professional appearance expected; no long nails; men must be clean shaven
