Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level 3 NICU position in Rapid City, SD, requiring at least 1.5 years of NICU experience and an active SD or compact RN license.
Details
- Level 3 NICU with 28 beds and an average census of 13–16 patients
- Patient population includes neonates of all gestational ages with diagnoses such as low birth weight, high-frequency ventilation, nitric oxide therapy, total body cooling, and feeders/growers
- No ECMO or cardiac surgery performed at this facility; patients requiring surgery are transferred out via the 24/7 transport team
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:1 to 1:4
- 12-hour variable shifts, 36 hours per week (48-hour contracts also considered)
- No set weekend rotation, though travelers may be scheduled predominantly on weekends
- Low census on-call may be required
- Expected to cover 2 out of 4 major holidays
- Pre-approved time off requests are subject to management approval
- Charting system: Epic (notify recruiter if you lack Epic experience)
- Equipment includes Alaris pumps and Omnicell medication dispensing
- Floating may be required to PICU, Pediatrics, Postpartum, Newborn Nursery, or Adult Constant Observation (overflow)
Requirements
- Active RN license — SD or compact license required
- Minimum 1.5 years of NICU experience required
- Required certifications: BLS and NRP; STABLE certification preferred
- Completion of a board-of-nursing-approved nursing education program
- Proficiency in vent management, IV starts, chest tubes, and IV medication titration
- Neonatal resuscitation experience preferred (charge nurse will attend deliveries)
- Must reside more than 100 miles from the facility to be eligible
- Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
- DOB and SSN required for consideration
Additional Information
- A manager interview is required for this position
- Unit support includes CNAs (1:10 ratio), a charge nurse (1:25) who attends deliveries, respiratory therapy, lactation consultants, and 24/7 neonatologist and neonatal nurse practitioner coverage (3 neonatologists and 10 NNPs on staff)
- Phlebotomy is performed by the RN; no IV/VAT team on site
- Orientation consists of a general traveler orientation plus one day and one night shift on the unit
- Navy scrubs are required
- Free parking is available on site
- First-time travelers are considered only with 2 or more years of NICU experience
- Former permanent staff must wait a full year before returning to the facility as a traveler
