Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg position at an acute care hospital in Weirton, WV, requiring at least 1 year of experience and Epic proficiency.

Details

• Acute care Med/Surg unit with 48 beds
• Common diagnoses include pneumonia, UTI, altered mental status (AMS), GI bleed, alcohol withdrawal, and falls/weakness
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5–7 on days and 1:6–8 on nights
• PCT support is available at a ratio of approximately 1:10–12; PCT duties include vitals, blood glucose monitoring (BGM), EKGs, applying heart monitors, bathing, feeding, toileting, and positioning
• RNs are required to titrate drips (e.g., heparin, Bumex, Lasix); cardiac drip titration is not required
• Respiratory therapy (RT) manages all respiratory equipment including BiPAP, CPAP, and high-flow O2; RNs are responsible for monitoring only
• A monitor tech on Level 5 reads and monitors telemetry for all patients and notifies nursing staff of any issues; RNs are not expected to independently read and interpret telemetry strips
• Charting is performed in Epic
• 12-hour day shifts (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
• Every other weekend required
• May be asked to participate in the holiday rotation
• No on-call or standby requirement
• Floating required; travelers may be floated to other Med/Surg, Med/Surg Telemetry, or IMC units for lower-acuity patients
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• Current BLS certification required
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Epic EMR experience required
• A copy of an unexpired driver's license is required for consideration
• Any licensing issues or hits must be disclosed upfront
• Work history covering the past 7 years (or from graduation, whichever is less) with no gaps greater than 30 days required for consideration
• Two references required: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., Charge RN); if the candidate worked a permanent position in the last 12 months, one supervisor reference must be from that facility
• Skills checklist completed within the past year required for consideration

Additional Information

• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• BSN is not required
• Orientation consists of 1 day with an educator/computer systems training and 1 day with a preceptor
• No self-scheduling or block scheduling; the manager creates the schedule and will work with staff around requested time off (RTO); travelers are expected to be flexible and help fill gaps
• Rotating shifts are spread across the assignment so that day and night shifts are not mixed within the same week (typically 2 weeks of days followed by 2 weeks of nights)
• RN scrub color is navy blue
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for the travel pay rate
• Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a minimum 2-year break before re-applying; cumulative travel experience at WVU facilities applies, and travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than 1 year total without a 2-year break
