American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week Labor & Delivery/Mother Baby travel assignment requiring C-section circulation capability and night shift availability.

Details

  • Acute care hospital L&D/Mother Baby unit with 4 labor beds, 4 postpartum beds, and a nursery with 8-crib capacity; 2 beds can also serve as triage beds
  • Unit delivers approximately 350 births per year (25–30 per month) and serves patients from 20 weeks gestation and above, including mag, insulin, pitocin, multiples, and VBACs
  • Typical patient ratios are 1:1 for L&D and 1:4 for postpartum couplets
  • Charting is done in TruBridge (Evident); Epic EMR is also used on the unit; Centricity FHM system is used for fetal heart monitoring
  • 12-hour night shifts (0645–1915), with at least 2 weekends per month required; Friday/Saturday nights and Saturday/Sunday days are considered weekends
  • On-call placement is possible due to low or high census and may occur rarely or as frequently as weekly
  • OB Techs are available 8am–4pm (2 techs) and 4pm–midnight (1 tech); no OB Tech coverage from midnight–7am
  • Respiratory Therapy is available in-house 24/7; pharmacy closes at 5:30pm with after-hours access via Pyxis
  • No IV team on unit; a PICC Nurse is available
  • Providers are on-call; Nurse Midwives are available in-house and will stay at staff nurses' request
  • Telemetry-capable unit, though nurses are not required to read or interpret strips — CCU reads them
  • Occasional overflow from MedSurg or CCU depending on room availability

Requirements

  • Active WV RN license or a compact RN license recognized in WV required
  • Minimum 2 years of L&D RN experience required
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, and Intermediate Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM)
  • Ability to circulate C-sections is required, as staff nurses may need to step in before the OR team arrives

  • COVID-19 vaccination required; medical or religious exemptions may be submitted for review and approval

Additional Information

  • Orientation consists of 2–3 shifts with a preceptor, conducted primarily on the unit
  • Nurses may float to MedSurg or ER in a helping-hands capacity if experienced and comfortable, but will be kept available for deliveries
  • Travelers work into the permanent staff holiday rotation
  • Scrubs are provided by the facility
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to qualify for this travel assignment
  • Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
  • Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one cumulative year without a 2-year break
