Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Acute Care position at a large, high-acuity hospital in Albany, GA, requiring a minimum of 2 years of specialty experience and at least 1 prior travel assignment.
Details
- Work setting is a 483-bed acute care hospital in Albany, GA
- 14-bed Med/Surg Acute Care unit
- Patient population includes diabetic, CHF, COPD, GI bleed, renal failure, dialysis, post-surgical, amputation, wound care (debridements), DVT, ETOH, and psychiatric patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:6 for both day and night shifts
- CNAs are assigned at approximately 1:12, though 1:8 is the goal; CNAs may be pulled for 1:1 assignments or sitter duties
- Common medications include Lasix, Bumex, and Heparin
- Patients are telemetry-monitored on a separate unit; nurses are not required to read rhythm strips
- CPAP available; BiPAP used on nights only
- Charge nurse does not take a patient assignment except when necessary
- LPNs and LPN-Cs are utilized on the floor
- EMR system is MEDITECH
- 17-week contract
- Night shift, 12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM), with a shift change window of 6:45–7:15
- Every other weekend required
- Schedule rotates with permanent staff
- Floating required to all acute care and cardiology units for medical patients, and to the EC for acute care patient holds
Requirements
- Active RN license in Georgia (GA state or Compact) currently in hand
- Current certifications: BLS (AHA) and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) required; ACLS preferred
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg or equivalent acute care specialty experience required
- At least 1 prior travel assignment required
- Experience in a larger, high-acuity, high-turnover, fast-paced facility required; Critical Access Hospital (CAH) experience will not be considered
- No BSN required
- MEDITECH EMR experience preferred
- Driver's license required for consideration
- Candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility to be eligible

- Primary Care Nursing model is practiced on this unit
- Strict attendance policy in effect; reliability and consistent shift coverage are expected
- Holiday coverage requirements apply
- Scrub colors: Caribbean Blue top and bottom, white top with Caribbean Blue bottom, or all-white scrubs
- Artificial nails, shellac, and nail enhancements are strictly prohibited due to CLABSI prevention protocols; polished nails are permitted
- No bags allowed at the nurses' station; a personal lock for a locker may be brought
- Candidates who have been employed by this facility within the last 12 months are not eligible
- Requested time off must be included at the time of initial assignment confirmation
- 3-day orientation
