Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced travel RN for a Med/Surg Float Pool position requiring a minimum of 2 years of Med/Surg experience and prior travel nursing experience, working nights across multiple facilities in the Boise, ID area.

Details

  • Acute care hospital setting spanning 7 Med/Surg units across facilities in Boise, Meridian, and Nampa — all approximately 20 minutes apart and easily accessible via interstate
  • Travelers are assigned to the Clinical Support Unit (Med/Surg Float Pool) and may be floated to any facility in the region within their specialty, or assigned as a 1:1 sitter in any area
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5 on Med/Surg units; patient care techs are also available (ratios of 1:8–10 depending on floor and day)
  • RNs are required to titrate drips; common Med/Surg titratable drip includes insulin
  • Epic EMR used; experience preferred
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7p–7a
  • Every other weekend required
  • Travelers are first to float and may be floated mid-shift to different units and facilities based on need; unit and facility assignments are communicated via app approximately 1 hour before shift start
  • No self-scheduling; block scheduling is attempted but not guaranteed
  • No on-call or standby requirement

Requirements

  • Active Idaho RN license or a Compact RN license currently in hand — pending licensure is not accepted
  • Current BLS certification required; copies of active certifications must be provided (pending certifications not accepted)
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg experience required
  • Previous travel nursing experience required
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible — no local candidates
  • Valid driver's license required
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Additional Information

  • Float pool is supported by 7 assistant managers, with one always on call 24/7; leadership rounds with travelers on days, nights, and weekends
  • Orientation consists of a meet-and-greet on day 1 followed by 3 shifts of inpatient orientation
  • No specific scrub color required; clean and professional attire is expected
  • Holiday coverage filled in as needed
  • Former permanent employees must have been separated for at least one year before being eligible for a travel assignment
  • No blocked scheduling or special scheduling requests will be accepted
  • Meridian Medical Center is centrally located among all facilities and is a recommended base for travelers; safe parking is available at all locations
