Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a combined MS/ICU/IMC unit position requiring ICU and pediatric experience, with night shift availability and certifications in ACLS, BLS, and PALS.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting with a 20-bed MS/ICU/IMC combined unit
- Trauma Level 4 facility
- Patient population includes elderly adults with cardiac (CHF, AFib RVR, bradycardia), pulmonary (pneumonia, COPD, respiratory failure), neuro (TIA, stroke, detox, falls), GI, GU, orthopedic, and sepsis diagnoses, as well as stable pediatric patients (respiratory illness, post-op appy, dehydration)
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: MS 1:5 days / 1:6 nights, IMC 1:4, ICU 1:2, Peds 1:3–4
- CNAs are available on the unit at a ratio of approximately 1 CNA per 8–10 patients
- RNs are required to titrate drips including heparin, insulin, amiodarone, cardizem, PCA fentanyl, propofol, and norepinephrine
- Telemetry is monitored remotely by tele techs in Weston; RNs must be able to read rhythm strips when needed — GE ApexPro CH tele monitors are used
- Respiratory therapy is available 24/7; equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, Vapotherm, Servo U, and Hamilton ventilators
- Charting system is Cerner (transitioning to Epic)
- 12-hour night shifts (1900–0730)
- Block scheduling utilized when possible
- Every other weekend required
- Every other holiday required
- On-call rotation in place for low census situations; cancellations are rare
- Floating required in-house to ED, UC, and PACU, as well as interfacility to Park Falls and Weston locations
Requirements
- Active WI RN license or compact RN license (must be active by start date)
- Current certifications required: ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), and PALS (AHA)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- ICU experience required; pediatric experience strongly preferred
- Ability to read cardiac rhythm strips
- Ability to titrate vasoactive and critical care drips
- 2 professional references required: 1 supervisor reference from within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and 1 peer or supervisor reference from within the last 3 years of relevant experience
Additional Information
- RNs care for a diverse patient population across MS, IMC, ICU, and stable pediatric cases within the same unit
- Charge nurses carry a patient assignment; house supervisor rounds the building without a patient assignment
- Orientation consists of 1 day of computer-based training and hospital orientation, followed by 1–2 days of on-shift orientation
- Navy scrubs are required for RNs
- Candidates who have previously worked as permanent staff at this facility must have an end date at least 6 months prior to their start date, and hospital approval is required
- Candidates living within 80 miles of the facility are considered local, which may affect travel pay eligibility
