Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical Surgical position at a Level I Trauma Center and Magnet-designated academic teaching hospital, requiring Epic proficiency and active VA or Compact RN license.

Details

Medical Surgical unit in a large, Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma Center (adult and pediatric) academic teaching hospital in Roanoke, VA
Adult acute care patient population including elective back surgeries, trauma, prostate cancer, gallbladder, and cellulitis cases
Patient ratio of 1:6
Day shift, 3x12-hour shifts, 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM
Weekend requirement: every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
One holiday shift required per 13-week contract
Floating within skillset required
May be required to work in a charge nurse or preceptor capacity
Epic charting system experience required

Requirements

Active Virginia state or Compact RN license required; pending license accepted only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state
Current BLS certification required
Proficient Med/Surg nursing experience, including familiarity with Rapid Response and Code team protocols
Skilled in peripheral line care and management, nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oxygen administration, and isolation precautions
Epic EMR experience required
Two professional references required for consideration
Valid driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration

The hospital is a certified stroke center affiliated with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, University of Virginia, and Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine
Magnet designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, recognized for nursing excellence for over 20 years
