Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PACU position at a Level I Trauma Center requiring Epic proficiency and a broad range of advanced clinical skills across a diverse surgical patient population.
Details
- Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
- 13-week contract
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2
- Patient population spans infants, adolescents, pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics
- Surgical specialties include ICU, trauma, pediatrics, bariatrics, breast, colorectal, dental, emergency general surgery, ENT, gastroenterology, gynecology, gynecologic oncology, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, orthopedics, podiatry, pulmonology, and urology
- Epic EMR experience required
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
- On-call rotation shared with staff, assigned via sign-up sheet
- Floating required within skillset
- Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active VA state RN license or Compact RN license currently in hand; pending license accepted only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and PALS
- Epic EMR experience required
- IV therapy skills: blood products, central/PICC line care, and IV starts
- Respiratory care skills: ventilated patients, chest tubes, airway management, tracheostomy, extubation, and End-Tidal CO2 monitoring
- Neuro skills: craniotomy, EVD, spine surgery, and stroke scale
- Cardiac skills: antiarrhythmics, antihypertensives, vasopressors, opioids, reversal agents, arterial line management, dysrhythmia management, and CPR
- Surgical experience across ENT, general, neuro, ortho, total joints, cholecystectomy, and spinal procedures
- Monitoring and assessment skills: lab values, isolation protocols, malignant hyperthermia, pain management, PCA, and RASS
- Pediatric patient management experience required
- Pre/post-op skills: EKG, consent, cath/endoscopy/operative procedures, and straight catheterization (male and female)
- Valid driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration
- Two professional references required for consideration
Additional Information
- This is a 703-bed acute care Magnet-designated teaching hospital and the region's only Level I Trauma Center for both adult and pediatric patients
- The facility is affiliated with the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and certified as an Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
